Garage Walls

Most of the garages I've seen on the forums appear to be using drywall. I was just wondered are there other alternatives for walls to use?

Mine are primarily just painted cinderblock, with the lower 3' or so covered with FRP. The bathroom and office have "nice" walls (tile in the bath, drywall in the office), but not the shop area.

I covered my garage walls with 1/4" pegboard. Just add hooka and hang your equipment where ever you want it.

FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Panels), these are used in commercials kitchens and are great for abuse and wet/damp areas.

Yeah, my FRP are working out great on the lower part of the walls. People had warned me that they'd yellow and othewise deteriorate, but, perhaps because there's little sun exposure, mine're holding up great after ~7 years.

You can use metal siding if you wish... It's easy, fast, and when you're finished installing it, its done, unlike drywall which still has to have 3 coats of finishing, plus paint.. We built a garage for a buddy a few years back and it turned out really nice.

FRP and metal liner panel would be my top picks, at least on the bottom 3'-4'. The moron that build my garage put OSB on the bottom 3'. OSB and water do not mix well.

One warning about installing FRP. Make sure you use the correct adhesive. We installed 9 panels in my horse wash stall last fall. I bought the material at home depot and the "helpful" guy that loaded my cart intermixed two different adhesives, one solvent based and one water based. The panels that have the correct adhesive are fine, but the other ones buckled horribly within a week....now I have to replace them, sand down the old adhesive and start over.
