Changing oil under a lift

I am thinking of getting a small lift for my shop. I was wondering if it is safe to get under and change oil and things like that with a lift like this. Thanks

welcome to the forum! I would expect that as a lift it should be safe to get under it, but always check with the manufacturer

Thanks! I'm still trying to decide if I want a two post lift or just one of these. I was surprised to see that these were just as much as a lot of the two post lifts that I found. Thanks again!

if i were you, and you had enuf space, i'd go for a two post lift. I personally have one and its great you can actually park a car underneath it..

That was going to be my next question. I see people with four post lifts that park cars underneth, but I wasn't sure you could do it with a two post lift. Is there any danger of the lift failing and crushing your car?

well it has locks, and i also put a wooden beam in the tracks when i am not using it as a last resort protection, but in the 9 months that i have had it, its worked perfectly

Scissors lifts are fantastic. Here is mine shown about 1/2 way up. I do all kinds of work under it. It locks at several heights. It's also very low so that any car can drive over it.

as for brands, i can't remember what brand we have at home, as i am at university away from home and my jeep

I would recommend looking at a 2 post, 4 swing arm style lift. A good company is Rotary,who supplies lifts of all types to car dealers, service orgs. etc.I have ordered one for my new garage. They are around $3300.00 installed. They come in a variety of lift capabilities, and I would think that a 7000 pound capacity might meet your needs. A major consideration is ceilling height, and you will need 12 feet to install one of these. Rotary does have lower profile lifts requiring less height. Clearance of your garage door when raised is also important depending how high you will want to raise your car{s}.You can store a car on Rotary's lifts and place one undeneath it.Rotary's phone no. in the U.S. is 1-800-640-5438, and their webb site is www.rotarylift.com. good luck, and post pics when your finished!
