do it myself padded sockets..

Griots garage sells these rubber coated sockets for lug nuts so that you dont damage your wheels. well, since they are about $35 for the set, i decided to take a 17mm deep socket i got from sears ($6.99) and wrap a couple layers of duct tape around the out side to create a protective layer. just a good tip to pass along to the budget-minded garager! i also did the same with my breaker bar.

You can also put the tape on the inside to prevent the lugs from getting scratched up.

Hey good, I'll have to remember this. I imagine electrical tape would also work for the outside.

Maybe if you can figure out a way to thin that Dip-It stuff a bit, you could just dip the whole socket in it and coat the inside AND out? I've seen that stuff but have never used it, so I don't know how thick one coat of it is...
