Cool My Dads first car.

Continuing our look throught the archives, my Dad found a picture of his first "real car" as he calls it. The first car he had with fenders and a radio. The first car he wasn't afraid to pick up babes in! It was a '37 Plymouth. He bought in in the late 1940's. His Dad kept it running and all waxed and ready for his return when he went to Japan for the Air Force in the early 1950's. He kept a picture like this and a picture of his girlfriend, my MOM, in his locker while he was away! How is that for an Autopian.

looks like a nice reflection off that rear fender there, cool indeed!

BTW is it just me or is that an abnormally large trunk on that car?

Very cool! That picture is definitely a keeper! A while back I found the original license plates off my grandfather's first car - a 1929 Ford. Those will someday hang in my garage.

I think the first two cars my Dad bought were Corvairs. He had a '63 and then a '69. He really loved them, but also has no pictures. That's neat that you've got one Brad. By the way, I carry around pictures of my car along with pictures of my wife.

He told me a story last night that in college he went to a friends house in the snow (Michigan winter) and he had big truck chains on the rear tires. Well he turned the corner into his buddies house layed on the brakes too hard. He skidded and slid into a tree and dented the fender real bad. He was devasted. He took the car home and pulled it into the "Bloomquist Garage" and left it there and walked back to his friends house in shame.

When he finally came home that evening he went to find my Grandfather to tell him what happened to the car and he took him out to the garage. When he got out there the cars fender had been completely repaired and repainted by my Grandfather earlier that same day! He said they both had a good cry.

Wow... that's all I have to say!

I wish my dad had some pics of his 60's/early 70's cars.

What a cool picture and a cool story about the repair. What colour is/was that car? What kind of cars did your dad have without fenders or radio?

The Plymouth was a deep burgundy color with matching mohair upholstery. Woohoo!

He had a series of Fords and Mercury's many of which he chopped up and raced around town, Hot Rod style. You know, the James Dean of Lansing, Michigan!

He had another Plymouth, I think that he "shaved" and "frenched" and did some customizing. I have to find those pics.

This was his pre "foreign" car days!

I'd love to find pictures of my family's cars. I think a bunch are on slides though. One of these days, I should ask Dad. Some old shots like that would be great to decorate my garage with.
