Wow. It's hard for me to believe that a garage/house concept that I dreamed up on a computer program is now becoming a reality. It's a very exciting time for our family.

Redcar,

Thanks. The driveways in this part of the country are concrete. I'm also having a concrete walkway around the house.

How many total square feet in the "home" (all levels) and how many in the garage?

With the revised blueprints, there is 3625 heated sq feet (including the finished bedroom over the garage), and 1904 sq ft of total garage space. There is about 400 sq ft of storage over the 4-car garage section.

Storage room over 4 car garage:

There is enough floor space to fit 7 cars in both garages. With car lifts it's theoretically possible to fit 10 cars. It's more likely I'll use no more than 2 lifts (8 car capacity).

Update: September 4, 2004

The bricks and the roof shingles have arrived. We're having a "walk-through" inspection with the builder in a few days to finalize framing, electrical and plumbing plans.

I made a last minute addition to the 4-car garage section when I realized that there was no natural light in the room. I added two 4 ft x 2 ft casement windows positioned about 8 feet high. It shouldn't be too much of a security hazard and it still leaves room for wall shelves and cabinets.

We had our "walk-through" inspection today with the electrical, HVAC, security and plumbing crews.

Thanks to the advice from those on Autopia, I've incorporated several changes:

* 400 amp service

* 8 (2x 8 ft) high output fluorescent lights and 2 175W Halide lights (i.e. Griots without the markup) in the 4 car garage.

* 6 (2x 8ft) fluorescent lights in the 2 car garage.

* 220 V outlets with separate 25amp circuits in the big garage for the car lifts.

* Washer/Dryer/sink and computer networking in 2 car garage.

* Both garages fully insulated.

Dean
