garage paint peeling after a week

hey guys

i finally painted the garage floor with my dad last friday, we waited for 72 hours minimum before parking on it, we actually didn't start parking till friday of next week, gave it more time because it was a rainy week.
well every time the car is parked, and than moved the paint peels, with the tires.
we degreased the floor with some industrial cleaner (recommended by paint manufacter).

so i'm looking for input, what did you do and how did you prepare your concrete, what paint did you use? anybody know where i can get that yellow paint they use to paint lines on the road, that'd be pretty cool i think

I'm told by the pros that the problem often lies in the moisture content in the concrete and the inability of many consumer paints to be able to handle it. Apparently there is a big difference in the chemical makeup in some industrial coatings. Some of the "better stuff" that sticks well is so bloody caustic and dangerous that you have to have a license to handle and dispose of it. That was the case with the stuff they used on my floor.

the sad part is that my neighbor did his floor last year, with the same paint, but different cleaner and he has no problems, his floor survived 1 winter already, and it looks good, ours is peeling since the first time tires were put on it.

Odd.....what paint and cleaners did you both use?

I know someone who used truck bedliner material. It is more durable than paint, but not quite as nice as a 2 part epoxy coating!

Typically the floor should be etched with muratic acid before the 2-part epoxy is applied. But Brad is correct, most "home use" 2 part epoxy paints are junk.

i highly recommend www.ucoatit.com I have used it many times great product and has lifetime warranty against peeling.

The spray bed lining companies are using this a selling point to potential franchisee's. Just another why to make money.

Someday when I have my own garage I will have to worry about the right floor coating.

Tomciob.....Better just buy some yellow paint if you want those lines. The stuff they put down on the road is called "thermoplast"....it actually comes in a plastic pellet form in 40-50 lb bags. The truck that sprays the stuff has a big LP powered heating unit on the back that melts it down.....nasty smelling stuff too!!!
