powdercoated calipers today

the calipers were shot on my '01 grand prix gtp so i decided to upgrade to fbody calipers which are almost a direct swap. bought some less than new calipers from a guy on ls1tech. they were in pretty rough shape.. pistons were sticking and the dust boots were destroyed so i decided to completely rebuild them. was able to reuse the pistons after some sanding.

before:

after:

sorry, the "after" shots are blurry.. i need to invest in a tripod.

bought some drilled/slotted rotors and morse ceramic pads as well. got them on today but it was pooring rain so didn't take any pics.

Those look incredible. Did you do the powder coating or did a shop do it? I have to admit that I know nothing about the process - but the calipers on my ride look like your "before" shots.

Kudos to you for going with black and not some bright yellow or orange!

Very nice turn-around! Do they make caliper rebuild kits? I always though it was a complete replacement or nothing?

Re: powdercoated calipers today

thanks for the compliments.. i powdered them myself. they do make rebuild kits but as bigjim said most people just get remans. they're actually very easy to rebuild though.. most people just prefer not to mess with it.

Re: powdercoated calipers today

Excuse my ignorance on the issue, but how can you DIY powdercoat? Did you just have the right equipment or can you rent stuff like that? I thought it had something to do with a charge (+ on part, - paint) and then baking it at a high temp? I'm just curious...it looks so beautiful I want to do it myself!

Re: powdercoated calipers today

the hobby guns don't work very well imo. i used to have the exact gun in that link and i threw it in the trash about 3 months later. like anything you get what you pay for... i thought this was going to be a cheap hobby but like detailing it is very addictive. soon i had a few grand wrapped up in a 160 gallon air compressor, clean room with exhaust sytem, sand blasting setup, air dryer, and a much better gun.
