Hmmm... Not sure what I can tell you. It's a new home on a half acre. I just sectioned this portion off of a 6 acre piece and am in the process of developing the rest. Their should be another 9 building lots on this land. The home is a rambler style home (I've got bad knees and could only handle one stair case in the home. It's just a little over 5000 square feet (6 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath) brick home. The drive way will be a 20 ft wide drive with a wing that steps out to 30 ft about the time it hits the house this will allow an easy swing into the two bay portion of the garage, it's 28' X 28'. I'll keep most of my wood working tools in this garage also. The single bay is 18' X 32' ft and will have a 2 post Rotary brand lift in it, 15 ft center vaulted ceiling. I used to turn wrenches in a former life and will use the lift for repairs and detailing. I'll keep my automotive tools in this one. Typical benches/desk, computer hook up etc. I'll post a few more pics as I go along.

Got the basement floor framed today and the floor joists on. I should be able to have the roof on by Thanksgiving (crossing fingers). It's got a great gun vault that is 10' X 16' and 450 sq. ft. of cold storage that isn't included in the living space. The vault door (Fort Knox) has been completed and is ready to be picked up. I'm doing all the work I'm capable of on this myself and am subing out what I can't do.

Your set up looks awesome. 6 bedrooms!

Since you have turned a few wrenches in your life, I'd like to ask your professional opinion about different brands of car lifts. I'm planning on getting a 4 post Rotary "Revolution" lift (7,000 lb capacity), but it's a bit more money than other brands (about $3500 vs $2400). I've heard great things about Rotary lifts, but is it worth more than say a BendPak lift? Thanks.

A little background on myself. I'm an ASE Certified Master Technician though I've spent the last 8 years working in the software industry. I'm probably a little biased on this particular situation. I've used almost exclusively Rotary lifts during my automotive career. I happen to think they are probably the best built lift on the market. I too looked into other brands when considering this purchase and ended up coming to the conclusion the extra $1000 for the purchase now isn't much broken down over the next 20 years. You might find other lifts that do everything the Rotary's do but you would be hard pressed to find better. I also have a Rotary dealer fairly close and should I need to repair my lift parts are easy to come by.

If you don't mind me asking, are you going to be storing a car in the air on yours?

Yes, I'm planning to place 2 four-post lifts in the "deep" bays of my 4 car-garage. The ceiling height is 11 ft. and it should clear my "shorter" sports cars (2000 BMW M Coupe, 2001 Acura Integra Type R, 2003 Nissan 350Z). The lifts will be more for storage than for service.

Well, guys, the house is speeding towards completion. The garages were painted and some of the light fixtures were installed.

I'm experimenting with 2 halogen halide lights in the 4-car garage. These appear to be the ones that are sold by Griots. I purchased them here:

Since the house doesn't have electricity yet, I can't report how they perform, but 16000 lumens sounds good

My favorite gimmick in the garage is this neat ceiling fan. Since the garage is insulated, but not air-conditioned, it will come in handy this summer. My wife is complaining that it's the most expensive light fixture in the house. ("So, what's the problem, honey?")

There will be 2 halogen ceiling lights and six 8-ft fluorescent lights in the above pictured garage section.

What brand & model # is that fan? It looks terrific and very functional...could use one for my place.

Sorry, I don't have the brand and item number handy. My wife brought home a stack of lighting catalogs and I just picked it out based on the pictures alone. My contractor order says that it costs $413.

I'll try to find out the brand later this week.

Man Dean, that is really looking great! I know you must be so excited that everything is nearing completion. I love the garage flooring you chose. That is going to look sweet! Keep us posted on your progress.
