Martini Drinkers, What's Your Favorite?

I love a good Martini now and again. Friday afternoon, winding down... it sure can take the edge off the week.

My favorite is a Grey Goose, dirty, up, shaken hard, with three olives. Oh, man, now my mouth is watering!

Tanqueray Gin with a 2-splash pour of Dry vermouth with 3 vermouth-soaked olives and a twist. Served up, chilled stem, shaken...

I used to be a Gin Martini guy, but after I visited Russia a couple years ago and discovered good vodka, I got hooked.

I'm exactly the same David. Nothing beats a good Dirty Martini. I usually go for Grey Goose or Belvedere for vodka. If I'm in the mood for gin, Tanqueray Ten or Bombay Sapphire.

Cheers,

George

Have you ever tried Russian Standard David? An exchange student friend of mine turned me onto it, and now it's all I drink for vodka.

Yes I have. However, unless your friend brought it back for in in person, you have only experienced the export grade vodka. The Russian's do not export their purest vodka. The difference is amazing.

Does anyone have a particular brand or type of olive they prefer? I know some people like stuffed ones, but certain kinds just don't work with dirty martini's.

I just finished a bottle of these. They're great. Not too salty...

Re: Martini Drinkers, What's Your Favorite?

The perfect cocktail is a Martini IMHO, either gin or vodka. I prefer Tanqueray or Beefeater gin, 3-1, shaken and very cold (neat) - but I prefer a twist, though I do like olives as well.

I used to tend bar in Boston, and I read that the first Martini was invented at the turn of the 20th century in NY by a bartender of the same name, for his VIP customer, the industrialist J.D. Rockefeller.
