The lines routinely back up into the aisles, and good luck wishing they would open another register. IN MY DAY (lol) when I was bagging groceries, the stores would have pretty much every register going and at least one, if not two, sackers on each register. Why don't they do that anymore? Oh wait...I know, gotta maximize the bottom line and keep the almighty shareholders happy.
We can't hire enough workers, let alone reliable workers. We try to have every register open until 7PM at night, but the incessant call-ins, leaving early, slackers, etc end up making it difficult. It's not that the place is difficult to work for, it's just work. And many of these people would rather not be working.

Fastest checkouts I have seen is in Austin at H-E-B near University of Texas. Open 24 hours and the cashiers are nice and fast.

To be honest, I don't even like the self checkout process. It takes longer than using an express lane.

I don't have too many problems with Wal-Mart's checkouts. I tend to get out pretty quickly.

This past spring the battery died in my truck at 11PM, with me 45 min from home. I called the local WalMart and the lady who answered the phone looked up my truck in the battery book, quoted the price AND she pulled the battery and had it waiting at the front of the store when I got there! I didn't ask for any of this and was amazed! People may get PO'ed at WalMart but that was some A+ customer service...and yes it was the correct battery.

Ever go to a restaurant?

My grocery store has a cup holder and encourages people to have a drink while shopping, of course you have to purchase it when you check out. I don't have any issue with people paying for something after it's consumed, as long as they pay for it.

I never use self check out, I paid for that extra special service I get from the friendly cashier.

Yeah, you'd think managers would see that and run an open lane themselves. Pisses me off at fast food places too, especially since they do what they can to move the drive thru and practically ignore counter customers.

It also bugs the he!! out of me when the cashier is taking my order and the manager starts talking to them about something totally unrelated to the task at hand. Unbelievable that a management person can be that stupid.

I can't stand getting behind people who:

1. Believe there is some sort of exact change award for digging through a purse the size of a 55 gallon trash bag looking for 2 more pennies.

2. Wait until they are told how much the total is before they even begin to look for their checkbook.

3. Use the self scan registers and apparently cannot follow both voice and printed directions.

4. Don't control their kids.

5. Have no clue how to use the credit card machines.

6. Refuse to end their cellphone conversation while completing the transaction.

I needed wet/dry sand paper to fix a scratch, nearest place that I was absolutely sure had it was Walmart. I go there a decent amount on my lunch break, because the building I work in is boring and they wont build us a decent size cafe so everyone ends up going out during lunch.

Anyway, normally its not busy. Today for some reason it was. Got my 2 packages of sandpaper and a sanding block. Walked up to the (normally not crowded) self-checkout lines. Picked the one with the least amount of people (ever notice in Walmart the line with the least amount of people just takes the longest?) Lady in front of me has (no joke) 25 items. She looks at me, looks at my 3 (very small) items, and says "sorry its gonna take me a long time".

While she was struggling to actually figure out how to use the self-checkout, I decided to be as helpful to her as she was to me. 10 minutes later after she was done, I scanned my 3 items and walked out. She was still loading up her car as I was in my car and pulling out of the parking lot.

My sister in law had a psychology professor that fully believed common sense doesnt exist. Its people like the lady at Walmart today, people like those that leave abandoned carts in the middle of parking spots, and people that cant control their kids that are living proof common sense doesnt exist.

COMMON SENSE IS DEAD!!!!!

OBITUARY

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was as his birth records were lost long ago in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticking plaster to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live after a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust, his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility and his son Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers: I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
