(setting is college gym used by students, faculty, staff, and alumni, guests)
Today pretty much made me angry as heck when a middle aged guy came over as I was taking a bar off the bench to use for deadlifts. He trotted over screaming thats my bench. I looked at him and said nothing. No towel, no napkin, no water bottle on the bench to say it was his. I said ok fine fine, roll with it and I stand with my back to the fall and stare off into space. Then this guy looks at me and says ok I am going to the bathroom after blowing his nose all over a crappy gym napkin (not towel, but an actual napkin dispensed from those bathroom things meant to wipe down a machine.) I am getting heated now and go off and do a set of pull-ups. The middle aged guy comes back and just sits there and continues to sit there and sip his water. I am still staring him down. A guy my age (mid 20's) on the other side of the bench area says "use my bar, I am done." He is drenched in sweat and was really moving through his routine. He says have fun and says that guy is a real drag and he feels the pain also. Apparently this isn't the only guy that held up his workout. I lay the bar down and sip some water. This freaking guy is still sitting on the bench sipping his water. I finish my set of 50 deadlifts with 135# and re-rack the weight. Then this middle aged dude finally does a set of 5 bench presses. Then rests some more. I move to the other parts of the gym to wrap up my workout and this guy is still sitting there sipping his water. A simple look at the mirror seperate guys like that and guys that actually work out in the gym. Some go there to say they work out while others really just shut up and work out. I remember seeing this middle aged guy sometime last semester and he has gotten no where in terms of fitness. I have gained a confidence level that is equal to my ability without being a snob but to some folks who are sensitive and really liberal do not take well to my straight fowardness or being a bit brash in the terms of some people. But anyway this guy does 5 repetitions in a 1/2 hour period! That is just bad manners and if I see it again I will tell him and if he comes off as a high and mighty person I am going to the desk person.

It may sound bad to some folks who don't understand the context but I just smile and keep going because I know I am betterthan the folks who do not show common courtesy.

one day i was heading over to the squat/bar lift area and proceed to use the one nearest to me (24 hour fitness BTW), when all of a sudden an older guy points and said he is using this particular one. i then go over to a different machine and then while he is still not working out (would rather stare at himself in the mirror) he says, "i could fit you in if you would like to use it" . sometimes there are people there that act like they own the frickin' equipment. you can tell some of the egos of some of these muscleheads without even having to talk to them...

Muscleheads fine but this guy was waaaaaaaaay out of shape. I mean beer belly, sunken chest, hunch back of notre dame thing going on. Not aying thats bad, good on him for taking a step foward to improve himself but he is trying to take leaps where it just is not working out at all. He was asking some of the guys reading the mens health magazines for tips and assistance, even has a log book (a log book is great but I don't use it.) Not real useful for me to over now anyway. I'll just toss a 45 pound plate at him next time, lol j/k.

I actually have no problem with the muscle guys hogging and using the machines because they are in their own world just as I am in mine. At least they have muscle to back up their egos and not just an ego. They flex their muscles on the stage, for their girlfriends, to look big, or for what ever reason and I respect that just as long as they don't step on my toes to where I do not have to do anything. But then again there aren't many muscle guys in my gym, steroids and most other testosterone boosting meds are prohibited by the NCAA, even if my school is Division 3, haha.

most all of the muscleheads that are at the gyms that i am at are the "bros", and while they can work out like everyone else at the gym, just don't take up empty space and act like you're occupying it when others can be using it. there are others who pay the monthly fee just like everyone else...
