I loudly said "your welcome", they didn't even look back at me. Now they pause at the second set of doors. I was like, you have to be kidding me. So I walk up and open the door, as I walk though I walk behind the door as if to hold it open. Except I didn't hold it... Smack, it hits one right in the head. Her and her friend look at me and called me a choice name. I replied "Oh, you noticed the fact I didn't hold the door again this time for you, if you wouldn't have been such a %^#$@ last time I did maybe I would have.

It was just one of those classic moments. I really do go out of my way to be nice to people. Helping strangers when ever I get a chance. But on the other hand I'll go out of my way to be a jerk to someone that is to me. I need to work on being nicer all the time but it's hard.
Oh I love that! High maintenance, snotty women need a crack in the melon from a door every now and then. When you started the story, and said how they approached the door, then stopped, I was waiting for you to say they sat and waited for an automatic door that wasnt automatic. THAT would be perfect! Id say my peeve for the moment is people with obviously more items then they're supposed to have in the express lane. It makes me nuts!

Re: mannerisms in public

I get annoyed with passengers on planes that don't check before letting the seat back. Coach seats are cramped enough for me without some imbecile letting the seat back as far as they can without consideration for others.

Re: mannerisms in public

yeah, i work in a movie theater and ppl there are just as bad. I swear some people are so f'ing stupid.

One time this lady ordered 3 icees for her 3 kids. I said "Ok, which flavor would you like for each one?" and gave her the 3 options. She asked each kid which flavor they would like "Wild Cherry, Blue Raspberry, or Coke." Each time, the kid took a second, thought about it, and took like 10 seconds to answer. The second and third kids didn't move any faster. Or people will be in a long line, and wait until they get to the front to decide waht they want. Quite possibly the worst demographic are the pre-teens.

Then, ppl will come 45 minutes early for a movie (while another movie is still playing). The second ppl start walking out of the other movie, they barge into the theater. Even though someone is OBVIOUSLY cleaning the theater, they go ahead and sit down, forcing us to clean around them. Then when they leave, they leave EVERYTHING sitting on the floor. If you have a theater of 50-60 ppl and are cleaning it by yourself, this gets really annoying, because all we have is a broom and dustpan.

Maybe where you are, but the self-checkouts here are not just for express use, in fact our grocery store has an express self checkout lane and 4 normal self checkout lanes. Plenty of people use them for full carts.

Great thread by the way, I can't believe I just found it now LOL

Re: mannerisms in public

so today (literally a half hour ago) i go to k-mart and as i start walking through the parking lot, some lady backs out very quickly in her jeep and hits me (side of my arm) pretty hard. i said, "you need to pay attention" and she says "i'm sorry" (not convincingly), of course she was on a cell phone, and speeds off . i hope cell phone usage while behind the wheel gets banned in california here soon, too many people do not pay attention and if they get in an accident, i really don't have any sympathy for them. with bad drivers out on the road already, this is just another distraction and this is all we need...

Re: mannerisms in public

I'll be at walmart waiting in the LONG line, and I will open a bottle of soda.. take a sip and put it on the cashier counter. That's as far as I'll go.... but I will not open a bag of chips and start eating....

Re: mannerisms in public

has the work ethic of some gotten worse over the years? i had somebody ask me (plus people are on the streets with signs and what not) for a dollar when i was walking up to the atm machine today, and the young adult looked perfectly able to work (had nice clothes on too). i don't even want to imagine what some use the money on (booze, drugs, etc)...

Re: mannerisms in public

I really hope that the nature of the bad ones doesn't affect the way you act. If you stop being nice to people, then everyone will lose. I hold the door open for everyone on just about every opportunity. I would say about 1/2-1/3 of people ignore me. It bugs the s*** out of me but I keep doing it because it's the polite thing to do.

Unhappy Re: mannerisms in public

I have 2 teenage daughters and a grandson, I often think how their futures will be with the way things are going. Kinda sad really if you think about it.

Re: mannerisms in public

-Glad you all revived this thread, I hadn't seen it before. I absolutely HATE the people that don't use their blinkers, I mean how hard is it to push that little stick up/down? Even if I'm taking a sip of tea I'll use my blinker.
-I also hate those people that wait until they get to the front of the line to start getting the money out. I used to work at a fast food restaurant (Tim Hortons) and I couldn't stand those people that didn't even know what they wanted. Like they would wait until they got up to the speaker, and then start deciding. And I don't mean "Do I want an iced cappucino or a mocha?" It was like "I'm going to read everything on the menu because I have absolutely on idea what I want." Ok, there are people behind you. Please have a *general* idea of what you want before you get to the drive through. Or the people that come inside and stand in line, but don't actually look at the donuts/menu until they get to the register.
-Scottwax earlier mentioned the people that get through the drive through things at the bank that don't have their forms filled out. I second that one. I also get pissed when I have all my forms filled out and ready to go and all I'm trying to do is cash my check on my way home from work, and I'm sitting there for 15 minutes. That should take no longer than 5 minutes.
-Oh, and the people that talk on their cell phones while ordering and can't even keep track of what they are ordering. I'll get the food that they told me to get, and then they ask me where their muffin is. I tell them they didn't order one (yaking on the cell) and they insist that they did. Um no, you were too self-absorbed to pay attention to what you were ordering. Tell them to hold on a minute.
-I also dislike seeing other people in the stores get angry at an employee for something that isn't their fault, but the company's fault. I've seen women get frustrated and yell at teenage workers about the quality of the product they bought. Um, that kid just puts in on the shelf, you need to take that up with the product's company.
-I hate it when I park way far out there, with at least 10 spaces between me and the nearest car, and I come out and there is a car right next to me with no other cars around. Out of the other hundred parking spots available, why park right next to me? Isn't it a little bit EASIER to park in the middle of no other cars than right next to one? I can't think of any reason why they would park next to me.
-This one just annoys be, but people who don't say thank you to the person who fixes their food or whatever. I always say it just because it is polite, and I find it somewhat irritating when I prepare someone's order and they just look at me and take it. It's not like they have to, but it's nice to hear it. Otherwise it seems as though they think they are entitled to it.
-People that don't pull all the way up when dropping someone off. Especially at schools. How hard is it for your child to walk the extra 30 feet?
-At 4-way stops, I hate it when someone tries to go right behind the person in front of them. No, you have to stop too.
-Loud and obnoctious teenagers. And middle schoolers that think they are just as cool as the highschoolers, but twice as obnoctious.
-The businessmen that think they are so important and are ALWAYS talking on their little bluetooth things and never acknowledge anyone.
