Repairing rim rash?

Could any of you plese asstist me in a way to repair a 4 inch "rim rash" on one of my wheels ....think it came from a "touchless" car wash that I used during our water shortage here this summer. ...no rim damage other than the scrape....would appreciate any suggestions...thanks

Re: Repairing rim rash?

Welcome to Autopia!

Depends how bad the damage is. If it's not too bad you can sand/etc. it smooth and touch up the finish. If it's silver paint with clear on top, Wurth brand wheel paint is *very* good.

If it's a special finish, or bad damage, I'd send it to a pro. There are a number of wheel repair places that'll redo them for less than the cost of buying a new one. Or have a good bodyshop do it- I've had good results going that route (but I knew the guys doing the work, and that always helps ).

Re: Repairing rim rash?

i work at a tire shop and when i get wheels in that have had some bad curb rash i usually blend it in with a carbon file

i dont think this is the same kind of damage, though.

what kind of finish is on the wheel? maybe a wetsand a polish

Re: Repairing rim rash?

Hmm. Can't really recall. I think it was 1500 or something. It was not very aggressive. Make sure you use it wet and tape the area immediately around the wheel where you will be wet sanding.
