Insurance & customizing

Don't know if everyone knows this so i thought i will share this info for everyone who had custom parts.
Check you auto insurance policy, chances are they are not covered and if they are covered it is only up to a certain amount, usually around 1000.00. Be sure to add all you custom work to your policy if you want to get reimbursed for it if anything should happen.
For example: If you have a 2000 ford mustang, you go out and get a spoiler kit for $500, add custom rims for $1000, a custom stereo for $500, etc....
Now your car gets stolen, you will not get any of the $ back because your auto policy limits you to what you can add on the car. If you would have notified the insurance company and added all of it to your policy it would be covered.
I just dont want to see anyone get burned with this stuff, i work as an adjuster and see it happen every day. some people have a 10,000 stereo system and never insured it, and all i give them for it is 1,000.
Hope this helps someone out in Autopia
Brian

Excellent tip, thanks. But, does it raise your insurance rates?

I have already checked all the possible additional coverages on my policy and it really is not jacking my insurance up all that much.
