I need a hand in the area of auto paint colors. I plan to repaint my 300ZXTT, which is currently in its original black "Onyx - nissan code GL1", which is a non-metallic black.
I want to try something a little more unique, but not straying too far from BLACK. I had something in mind but not sure it exists. The best I can describe it as is "black cherry". I'm thinking something that is black but with a bit of a hint of red, maybe some red metallic flake or something. But I don't want the car to end up being purple, or red, or a cherry red, or a burgandy or anything like that. Do you know what I mean when I say black with a hint of red?
One of the reasons I don't want to stray too far from black is I've already got a bit of a color contrast theme going. With my black Z, I have red highlights everywhere... from my Stoptech big brake calipers, to my silicon hoses and hose couplers in the engine bay, badging, leather stitching etc.
Any suggestions for what I should look for in a custom paint color that will meet my needs would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Jason

You may want to start there and add or remove some red tint to suit your needs. IMO, I would go a little darker then teh stock FJ BLACK CHERRY, with more pearl. It would look super sharp and make people guess what color it is. I think you're going for the look where from a distance it looks almost black but up close you can see a hint of red in there.

I don't recall the color name, but Subaru offered a black with red/silver metallic flake on some Foresters for a while. It think it was late '90s or early 00's model year. The red was very subtle . . . the car appeared mostly black, but the curves had an evil red glow to them. Cool paint; I wish I could remember the color name for you. I'll post it if I find it.

Something like red calipers would help bring it out.

There is a Honda/Acura paint code called "Black Currant Pearl" that I recall from the 96-97 Integras that is close to what I'm looking for. But I can't find any pictures of it. I haven't laid eyes on one for a while. Its close, although it might be a little more purple-ish than I want.

I almost bought that color, but it looked too much like black to me. It's very nice in the sun -- a very deep purplish black. While cloudy, or at night, it looks black. You have to see it in person. It looks nothing like the colors on the website or brochures.
I also am familier with the Honda Black Currant Pearl -- as we almost bought an Accord this color back in '99. The new Ford Dark Amethyst is darker.

You apply a black base, a black diamond meatallic, a brandywine kandy, and then the clear. It would be a very expensive paintjob but it looks pretty cool here in the book.
