door edge guards

Hi all,

I've read the other threads asking for door edge suggestions... however, I just purchased some from the auto parts store. Yes, I am aware they are rather undesirable, and believe me, I'm not the sort of person who would normally do this. However, as any of you who have encountered a tC know, they have long and heavy doors. I figure some removable ugliness is better than chipped door paint!

Anyways... I had a few questions first. I think these things use 3M adhesive. They seem to be more of the type that is a T shape rather than being one giant, long loop.

1) Can this be removed easily in the future? Is this the same stuff they use on automobile decals (so I can follow the same steps for that?)
2) Would this possibly cause any damage to my paint (from maybe water getting trapped in there; I saw this concern in another thread)?
3) Should I treat this in the future as I do other pieces of trim (with 303?).
4) Do I need to prep the surface in any way, other than making sure it is clean? Do I need to strip the wax/sealant in that area?

I believe that is all... thanks!

What I would do is try and get some bulk pieces of 3M Clearbra material and cut them to shape your doors. You can get bulk sheets for damn cheap on Ebay. The best thing about that stuff is that you can wax over it, it protects surprisingly well, it is clear, and it is removeable.
