Where do you go?

What makes a good car mod company? How do you know what company to go to for your modifications?

A lot of my car's mods are Nismo, which is Nissan Motorsports. Other than that, I am a member of a forum for my specific car, and I think that forums can sometimes be great sources because you can see what worked and didn't work for others.

Agree, go to the specific vehicle forum (if they have one) and see what other's have done.

Yep. Joining the Maxima forum and Protege/Mazda forums helped me to learn from others' experiences. The credibility of vendors is discussed there. I look for dyno graphs to prove power gains from products, but there's really no way to prove that the numbers on that dyno graph are indeed 100% accurate, or honest.

I've always found that the local forums do a good job of policing local mod shops and the info is usually very accurate.

IMO, it would depend alot on what kind of car you drive, and what you look for in terms of mods. Power, aesthetics, reliability. Companies like HKS, APEXi, GREDDY, among others are huge, well recognized companies. Then there are small ones that make their own product which are founf to be reputable.

It depends on what you are looking for and if you just want parts or labor too. I have some local places I deal with for parts but would not think of letting them touch my cars. LOL And visa versa. For Subaru parts I always try and deal with Oakos.com and he is mostly Subaru specific. What sort of car are you talking about?

Livernois Motorsports in Dearborn, Michigan. They work with all makes and models and the owner Dan Millan has a very competitive 6 second car too.
