Diamon Fusion Glass treatment and Perma Plate?

Hi All,

Next week I'll be picking up my new truck. The dealer and I talked about pakages that could be added.
One of them was a glass treatment called Diamon fusion. It's a 2 step process that is suppose to protect the windshield, improve visability by 34%, helps driver reaction time by 25%, reduces, night time glare and strengthens the windshield 10x's. The cost is $495 and is guareented for 5 years.
The next is Perma plate, in which you don't have to wax your car for 5 years!! Also, they apply a protectant that repels liquids and stains. Price for treatment $495.

Now I ask all of you, is this stuff for real??? I tend not to believe the Perma Plate, no waxing for 5 years??? HHHMMMM. What would I do with my time?
But what about the windshield treatment.

There is no such thing as a wax/sealant that will protect your paint for 5 years. $495 would buy you a lot of nice detailing supplies so that you could maintan your car youself for many years. Zaino or Klasse SG can get you upwards of 6 months of protection, but your mileage may vary due to envinronmental conditions, wash frequency, etc.

The "special" glass treatment also sounds over-priced and too good to be true. Try Aquapel (about 8$/treatment) made by PPG for auto glass and you can get 6 months of protection. It is as easy to apply as Rain-X (cheaper alternative, but you'd have to reapply the Rain-X much more frequently.)

They have those packages here in the UK . A common version is the "diamondbrite" package thats available through some manufacturers. The car retailer calls a diamondbrite specialist out, who cleans the paint and applies diamondbrite glaze. In my opinion its a bit too much for a service which you can easily do at home. I agree with chm, spend the money on a few products and you will be happy . By the way is that the new R10 chm? You know its a diesel??

It is an R8. I didn't even know they had an R10 out yet, much less that it is a diesel too.

If you would read Consumers Report- they tell NEVER buy these types of products- they are useless con-jobs.

Even on the Diamon-Fusion website, they don't make those claims for their product. Here is what is says:

It has been proven by independent studies that a hydrophobic coating such as Diamon-Fusion®, applied on car windshields and side glass, improves visibility during rainy conditions over 30%, giving an additional second of reaction time to the driver and improving response time by 25%, which translates into an invaluable safety feature.


In other words, a hydrophobic coating (Rain-X, Aquapel, etc.) does this-not necessarily only thier coating. A hydrophobic coating improves visibility during rainy conditions...No sh*t!

I don't know about thier makes it harder claims-I don't know a lot about nano technology, but guess I don't know how a nanocoating repels rocks

Definitely pass on the $495 wax job. And I would probably pass on the glass treatment as well-unless they let me throw rocks @ a demo car to see if I could break it.
