Adding 11 HP to the new work truck + a quick wash & detail

I had just received the Advanced Flow Engineering high performance air filter with the stage I and Stage II intake systems. The filter lasts for the life of the car (and then some). It also increases air mass flow 7x and together with the intake system adds 11 horsepower and improves gas mileage by at least 7%. It took about 45 minutes to install the Stage I and only 15 minutes to install the Stage II. Here are some pics.

The days are sure getting short. There was only enough time for a quick wash, then a quick polish with PC, then a quick spray wax.

Congrats! But you do realize that the extra HP can only be realized at high rpms, right?

A true car guy! Perfomance mod and cleaning in the same day!

I wish they had a cool air system for my car but at least the factory system is pretty decent.

Just the increased fuel milage is worth it.
I usualy put a bottle of Optimum spray wax in the tank for more HP.

Very nice truck mod.....now if I can do that to my Ford Ranger I might actually then have a full 80HP!!!

I had a True Flo foam filter in my 04 Ranger which is suppose to increase air flow and better filtration and gas mileage ..was told it was better filtration than the pleated cotton in the K&N type filters....when I brought it in to get serviced under warranty the service manager told me that running an oiled type filter can contaminate the MAF sensor and void the warranty...

After reading on some of the truck forums I seen where some people did have a problem running the K&N type filters and having MAF problems...

I had good milage when I had my True Flow filter in ..But I removed it till I got more info on any problems it may cause...

I have read articles on how to clean the MAF sensor in case you have a problem..but while it is under warranty I will leave it out....

It does not cause problems in the diesals though..go figure....

Merci, you are right. the 11 HP is at peak perforamance. I guess the title should have read "adding upto 11 hp."

Anthony, you probably buy the stuff by gallons! It should protect your hair for up to 5 months depending on how often you wash it. lol

ML-53, very good point. I had read about K&N filters causing MAF sensor to go bad becasue of the additives/impurities they have in their fluid. The system I got is from Advanced Flow Engineering which has no MAF issues (Toyota Racing Division did a thorough testing from what I read on their website). They also offer combination of fluid filteration and microfiber which is called Pro-Guard 7 for maximum filteration and air flow. The problem with polyurethane foam is once it traps dirt/particulates, it can not be removed. But it is definitely better than paper.

That looks like a good intake system, but 11hp, that seems like a steep number. And you know that the filter will last the life of the car but still needs to be cleaned about every 15-30K or sooner, depends a lot upon your driving conditions.

BTW nice job on the detail too. Love the color!

Same here. K&N can get very pricey though when it comes to their intake systems.
And the problem see sometimes with the K&N filters is the oil on the filter being blown onto the MAF wires. I've personally never had this problem but obviously some people have. I think it has more to do with people re-oiling the filter and putting too much on and not letting it dry before resintalling it.
