No offense, but I'm not impressed. While the quality of workmanship appears to be top notch, they're just a bit "over the top" for my taste -- almost like what you'd see someone doing just to flaunt their money or "because they can," there are things customized that don't really need to be/shouldn't be.

I condemn you for the work done on these vehicles (whomever they belong to). It seems like they have a lot of money/time into them.

I agree with the "over the top" comment.

However, if you show your car at anything other than a Concours show, the more mods you have, the more likely you are to win. I, unfortunatley, found this out this year. Taste has nothing to do with winning, nor does quality or cleanliness of work .

Jeez, give the guy a break. I think it's pretty cool that the love of cars, customizing (whatever your taste), detailing, etc... can cut through ethnic and national origins. There's a lot of craziness between us and that part of the region and to have him come in from Saudi Arabia and share in our love of cars is nice to see.

How much is a gallon of gas currently in Saudi Arabia?!

Wow.... that's almost surprising to hear from you, Sean. To me, your Integra has a good number of mods; but they are clean/tasteful, and I know you wouldn't settle for anything less than the highest quality of workmanship. I guess I would think your car would be popular at the shows.

Of course, now you're going to tell me you didn't win for best paintwork, either.... simply because you don't have hideous flames or airbrushed graphics all over your car....

Granted.... but it seems like the folks who DO share their "love of cars" and are from that region don't do it for the "love of cars," they do it to flaunt money, and/or make the pesants jealous. You have to understand that these folks are trying to emulate American culture, and the only exposure they get to that is by watching movies like The Fast and The Furious. They see that Americans "like over-the-top cars," so that's what they build.

Perhaps a more real perspective of what looks good would do some good here. I've even talked to some folks here in the U.S. who do these types of ridiculous mods to their vehicles, and openly admit "I think it looks fugly, but it's what is popular right now and will get me girls/friends."

The motives are wrong, though the intent may be there.

I'm guessing you mean you "commend" him, and not "condemn" him?

Though those do seem to be a lot of expensive mods for nothing. Why is it cool to have every door and hatch open upside down ?

My apologies, I didn't realize your were so versed in Middle Eastern sociological studies regarding their vehicle tastes to make such an educated, blanket statement! But thanks for clarifying and making me "understand."

I would say most people in the US or any country for that matter who have money, flaunt in the form of cars or anything else. How many who drive Porsche's, Ferraris, Bentleys, top of the line Mercedes / BMW's, etc... do so for the "love of cars" and a true appreciation for the craftsmanship and performance capabilities? A quick look at MTV Cribs (or any affluent suburb) proves my point.

I spoke with a guy who fought in Iraq and he told me about their love for cars and told about how they would drag race, do doughnuts and all sorts of street maneuvers like many American kids do. In fact, they loved when he tried to do a doughnut in his Humvee! I remember doing those same things as a teenager.

I was only looking to be inclusive of a newbie from a unique foreign country that we don't see here whose English may be limited. I wouldn't want to scare him off. I think it would be cool to hear more about what he has to say about the car scene there as well as detailing habits.

I wasn't saying he should be scared off.... that's not it at all. And I welcome his input on detailing habits; but as far as discussing the merit of his mods, I'm sorry but I just can't say that I'm interested in hearing why every possible piece to be made moveable, needs to be moveable.... or why overly flashy wheels that don't do anything for the look of the vehicle they're on are a necessity. Like I said, it's not in my taste.

If it's such a bad thing to find something distasteful, and express that feeling, then I'll gladly hang up my hat and check out of here. Heaven forbid that someone say they don't like something -- someone might get hurt. You can't please everyone ALL of the time, that's all there is to it.
