Hummer Kit

Got a rusted out SUV or Pickup? Have you always wanted a Hummer H1? Here is your chance By no means is it a Hummer but, it is a pretty cool option to scrapping that old pickup

Actually, there was a company in Texas that was taking old Tahoe/Suburban chassis and bolting on a Hummer shaped body long before GM decided to do the same thing and call it an H2. I wish AM General had just decided to sell a cheaper stripped down H1 instead of selling the Hummer trademark to GM, but I guess soccer moms wouldn't appreciate the lack of refinement of the original Hummer.

I must say That My H2 is very refined. Awesome build quality. Tight panels fit. I've never been in a truck that rides tighter and handles like its on rails. Absolutely Zero body roll. As far as the Tahoe, Saburban thing.........Dunno, Dont care. Its a totally different vehicle.

You all should watch this video to see the differences between the H1 and H2. It’s not comprehensive but if you are interested, a quick search should yield plenty of information about their differences.

H1 verses H2

Cool Video. I guess the way mine looks I'm a Pavement Prince!!
I dont get all the H2 bashing though, The H1 is far superior and double the price of the H2.
I dont think Hummer ever claimed the H2 could do what the H1 could?
I dont off road so I really dont have any first hand knowledge.
But why all the bashing?
The Z06 can run circles around the Regulaer C6? Vette doesn't get bashed.
Anyways, I love my H2, its comfortable and sporty. Rides unbelievable and menuevers very well.
Not to mention it's excellent fuel economy...............

I think it just bothers those who know what the H1 is capable of, that GM is trying to push the H2 as having anything in common with the real Hummer when they don't share a single part between them. One is built by GM the other AM General.

As far as the corvette is concerned, the C6 is a unmodified Z06, not a Camaro with a Corvette badge on it.

The only thing that bothers me is that you used to be able to buy an H1 for around $60K, but after the H2 was introduced, the price for the H1 shot up to $100K. I would have paid $60 for a new H1, but now that is out of the question.

Hmm, quite a bit of misinformation in that post.

The H2 IS built by AM General using GM parts. GM does not build the H2. They only have rights to the Hummer name.

The H1's were always stickered at $100k, but you could get a new one for about $70k. The arrival of the H2 had no effect on H1 pricing. With your thinking, the H3 just pushed the H1 up to $150K when actually its because it's been redesigned.

First, the H1s built before the introduction of the H2 were priced well below 100k, but that was before they started to line them with leather and stick power windows and locks into them. Second, the H2 is built in an old GM/Oldsmobile plant which just happened to be conveniently located in the same town as the AM General Plant. According to the quote below from AM General website, GM owns the HUMMER name, GM designed the H2 AND GM sells it. If you can't see past the charade of AM General running the plant so GM can claim that the H2 and H3 have something in common with real HMMV, then I'm sorry for you. Before you start accusing people of spewing misinformation, go check your facts.

Below are the specs for a 1999 Hummer, notice the price range at the end and try to figure out who is misinformed.

Curb Weight...........6640 lbs.
Wheelbase.............130 in.
Track Front............71.6 in.
Track Rear............71.6 in.
Length..................184.5 in.
Width....................86.5 in.
Height...................76.8 in.
Ground Clearance..16 in.
MSRP.................$56-83K



Here is the quote I referenced above:

"In late 1999, AM General and General Motors Corporation finalized an agreement to jointly pursue product, marketing and distribution opportunities for HUMMER. Under the final agreement, GM acquired the exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide and the current HUMMER was renamed the HUMMER H1.

Hmm..... sounds like the truth must hurt! GM does build the H2, essentially it's on the same chassis/platform as the Tahoe/Suburban and (in the SUT's case) Avalanche. HUMMER is a GM franchise, most often tied to Cadillac dealerships. And one other point -- go take a look at an H3. What badge is on the front doors? Oh, that's a GM logo.....

If you honestly believe that the SUT you bought is an AM General built offroading machine, I feel truly sorry for you. Oh, and the H1 has been redesigned? What did they change? I don't see a damn thing different, personally. Unless you mean that they added GM badges and a DURAMAX badge to indicate that they're using even less AM General parts in it now....

They shoved a Duramax in it, named it "H1 Alpha" and jacked the price up by 50%.
