Question Buying new tires...

I am looking at either the Goodyear Assurance Tripletreds or the Yokohama AVID TRZ in the size 205/55-16.

I'm trying to get the best deal on these. Is there a trick or two to getting a deal? Sort of like car haggling for tires??

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (this is me right now, haha)

I can't tell you any tricks but I love my Yoko Avid V4S and have heard some pretty negative feedback on the quality control of the Assurance tires.

Don't know about any tricks but check tirerack.com, they have good prices although they may not have what you are looking for. The do sell plenty of brand names though.

Tirerack.com has very competative pricing and also has a list of local installers for your area. Some of these will match or even better Tire Rack's prices.

Good Choices, I had both of those on my list out as a possible purchase this fall.
The Grand Caravan, Wife drives it like shes still ina small car.
50mph around corners... ha ha ha

Got 65k out of the factory Michelon MX? The HydroEdge look good as well. but more expensive than the Goodyears fora similar tire.

The Toyo's at Tirerack have a write up comparison on them and they are cheaper.

plus $75 Crutchfield gift card.

Check out Cooper SLE's in H and T rated.. I've had two sets on previous cars and loved them. Great in the winter and very good handling and wear.

H rated at 50k
T rated at 60-70k

I might just go that route, buy local, and save on shipping.
The local Cooper shop is 10 minutes away and it take them 15 minutes to mount and balance 4 tires when you go in at 8am on a Saturday and they put the whole crew on one vehicle.
Done that twice. I've done the whole Tires Plus, Sears, etc....with some crappy results and long waits.

Seems everytime I put new tires on a vehicle, I trade it.....So mabye I'll go cheap this time around ???

Thanks for all your input, guys.

I called for quotes around here, and the prices just weren't that great. $10/tire for install plus an extra $5 for valve stems? That just doesn't seem right.

Well, I've decided on the Yokos, because of the very long 80k warranty and their level of quality. There weren't very many reviews on them on tirerack.com yet, since they just came out. So there's a little bit of a risk involved. I really need them to live up to their snow claims. Most of Ann Arbor isn't plowed regularly!

I've also decided to get them through tirerack.com, since the price is so good, and the local installer they found would balance and mount them(w/valves) for $15/tire. Also, the $75 Crutchfield card also swayed me a little.

Thanks again, guys!
