What do you think of these magnesium rims?

What can I say, I'm a sucker for Dymags. I think they were so cool looking! Anyway, a guy has this set for sale in ZR-1 size/offsets. Plus they were finished in gunmetal, which is hot!

Do you think they would look better than the A-molds my car currently has?

Here's my car with the 94-95 wheels:

And here are the Dymags for sale:

Some background, Dymag made the wheels for the Callaway Twin-Turbos, first in 16" size in 1987, then in 17" size for 1988-1991's. Some '91's got OZ wheels that were also used on SuperNatural cars. The TT cars had the narrower standard Corvette wheels, while these ones were made in ZR-1 sizes, which means a 17x11 rear. You can see the deeper dish on two of them.

I doubt it matters as I don't need to be spending money on new wheels. But when I saw them, man are they hot. I think gunmetal would look good with red. Am I wrong? Would they look weird in bright sun when the red is lighter?

Another small plus is that the A-molds have the 1991-96 Corvette emblem while the Dymags have the correct emblem for a 1990.

Bob, those Dymags look hot. I am strictly a stock appearance guys and these did come stock on some ZR-1 (Callaway).

Go for it!!!

I believe they will look great. Best with black but they should be very attractive on your red.

I think that they will look awesome...what does a set go for? Are they heavier/lighter than what's on there now?

Edwin, I really prefer stock wheels also. I actually like the way the original 1990 wheels look. But I also really like the A-molds on the car now, and I love Dymags. Plus, this keeps the originals in nice shape.

I'm not sure if these ever came on a Callaway SuperNatural car. They mostly used OZ wheels like this (seen on one of the two amazing twin-turbo LT5 Super Speedsters):

It's possible some ZR-1's had the Dymags. Callaway did a lot of custom type stuff, so every car was somewhat different. I don't know.

I believe the Dymag's are a few pounds lighter, but the A-molds I have now are pretty light too, lighter than the original wheels.

The guy selling them is offering them for $3000 shipped. Dymags from Callaway new sell for I believe $1800? That's for the 17x9.5" wheel the TT had. It's hard to say how much the 17x11" was. I heard MidAmerica used to sell them for $950 per front and $1150 per rear, but not in gunmetal, just in the original "aluminum" color. Plus, these have matched center caps, the centers on the original Dymags was the factory machined look since the non-Callaway wheels were a machined face. I always thought it was odd to have the center not painted to match the Dymag.

Anyway... it seems like a fair price, Dymags are fairly hard to find. And he has the Low Tire Pressure Warning Sensors mounted to the rims already.

I'll have to think about it. I'm not sure I'm ready to drop $3k on cosmetics, though I do need new tires anyway...

Not the greatest of Photoshop work, but it might help you visualise what they look like? SIDE BY SIDE

Dymags were stock on Turbo Callaway's. Always thought they were cool looking wheels, but they are very hard to find. I say go for it.

Thanks Axe! I actually did the same thing, but it looked really messed up with the wheel tilt, and it makes them look like 20"ers or something.

Apparently some Callaway ZR-1's (called the CR-1) had Dymags. Here's one that had them:

Of course, the other thing for those opining, do you like those Dymags more than the look of the 5-spoke A-molds that are on the car currently?

I may be different but I think the wheels you have on there now look much better.

Oh, of course I forgot about the Corvette Challenge cars. They also wore Dymags, and eventually (or always?) in 17x11" on the rears. It was pointed out to me these are likely Corvette Challenge wheels.

I like the ZR-1 5-spokes a lot (my current wheels), so we'll see.
