Problem with 97 Chevrolet Malibu

Hey guys my dad is having a problem with his Malibu. It has a rough idle and it shakes really bad when he drives it. When I started it up and popped the hood the engine was shaking alot. Can you guys help me out?

Vacuum leak, tune up. One of my co workers had the same problem with his truck and he just took it and got a full tune up (plugs, wires, fuel and air filter) and now running like a top at 160000 miles.

4 or 6 cyl.? I agree it just needs a tune-up but there may be another inherent issue going on here....

If the car continues to run rough after you start going, it may not be a vacuum leak problem. Kinda sounds like an ignition problem, like the car is missing. I'd check for a possible fouled spark plug. The tune up will either fix the problem or uncover the problem at the very least. Good luck.

It is a 6 cyl.
