Should I remove the side mouldings?

From what I hear, the side mouldings on 4th-gen F-bodies are very easy to remove.

The 1st page he has them on, 2nd page they are removed.

The only thing I'm worried about is what the paint underneath will look like.

Any opinions? Here's a pic of my car right now.

I like the look of cars without the moldings. I think it looks cleaner. Where they are located its not like it is going to stop a runaway door or anything. They just seem to trap water when washing making it a pain when they keep dripping after you have dried the car off

I dont know if the paint will be noticably "brighter" under them or not..only one way to find out huh

I think you should go for it, it hate body side moldings.

Zane - did the paint under the moldings match the rest of the car?

Also - how long have you had the TransGo in for? Did you install it yourself? Is it set for stage 1, 2, or 3? Thanks

'93s didn't have the mouldings. Always been slick

I have had the TransGo for a little over a year now. I had it put in when I got the tranny rebuilt. It only has one shim, but still has a pretty firm shift. 2 is pretty stiff (just right for a stall), and 3 is full racing only (break your neck on the street).

YES!!!

Not as noticable on the Camaro's but I took them and the "Trans Am" lettering off of the WS6 and it made a HUGE difference in cleaning up the lines of the car.

Makes it easier to wax too!

I wouldn't do it. The paint underneath (if its original) will show the etch where the molding was adhered. It will need to be polished out with a slighly aggressive polish.

I've seen other 4th gens do this mod, and it does look good, but I prefer the moldings on the car.

I've done this to both my 02 Z28 and my 02 WS6. Both cars look 100x better without the moldings. Granted, your car is 6 years older, but I didnt have any discoloration in the paint at all.

That was one of the first mods I did on my F-body. It made such a huge difference, im telling you. The doors look soooo much cleaner, you wont regret it one bit. They were very easy to take off and the paint underneath was no different.

I prefer the look of vehicles without body side molding, but I keep mine on because I prefer the look of the molding to the inevitable door dings which result if you don't have it. Even though I take great care in parking in spots where this is the least likely to happen, some jerk in a tub of crap 2 door will drive clear across a parking lot just to park 6 inches from me. I also hope there is a special place in hell reserved for those who don't properly return their shopping carts.
