TJ lift prices and Jet module.

the other day my dad and i met a guy with a '99 jeep TJ. the car was having an engine transplant from the stocker 4 banger to a chevy 350. the guy bought the car with a Jet Power Control Module. obviously it fits the 4 cylinder model, but will it fit my 6 cylinder engine? i checked the JET web site and i didnt notice that it mentioned whether or not the chip was universal.

also, the jeep currently has a 4" susp. lift the guy is gonna ditch for a 7 incher. i dont know what the kit includes, but i do know it has some edelbrock shocks. the guy wants to sell it. any idea what a used lift kit would cost? how bout the JET chip?

'preciate it.

www.jeepsunlimited.com has more than enough info. for you...

For your questions, depending on what type of kit it is dictates what it's worth. IAS shocks, I've got them and they are great, start out pretty rough and smooth out after a few thousand miles

you will probably need a SYE on the transfer case for 4" on a TJ

$$ is going to depend on what is in the kit and the brand of components

the JET chip, even if it did fit is a POS and not worth the money or time.

What and SYE? maybe you can tell i'm new to jeeps/lifts/etc. is it needed for a 3" lift?

does bank's make a product for TJ's? we need something for mileage because i think the car is some kind of sick. we get an average of 12 MPG highway. 10-11 around town. we dont necessarily need power, but it cant hurt as long as it comes with better fuel economy.

lift
sye = slip yoke eliminator
basically a new output yoke for the transfer case, it also requires you to get a CV driveshaft to work with it. once you go over 4" on a TJ you will get bad vibes because the rear driveshaft is so short, the SYE and CV driveshaft eliminate this. The SYe is about $200 and the shaft about $200.

some people get around this by installing a transfer case drop and a motor mount lift instead ($100) to reduce the driveline angle. but the SYE/CV shaft is really the way to go.

are you going to wheel it? what size tires do you want to run?
it might be more cost effective to run a 2" body lift and a 2" coil spring spacer (this way you would not have to deal with the drive shaft issues)

gas
you want to increase gas mileage, but you are installing a lift??
your MPG should be around 20hwy/15 city minimum with stock tires. Obviously something else is going on inside the engine, and a stupid chip is not going to do anything. I would check/replace the following.. in this order
air filter + clean throttle body
02 sensor (upsteam one)
spark plugs
spark plugs wires + dist/coil

like Southern said, go to www.jeepsunlimited.com

we want to raise the mileage now so that its not much worse after a lift is installed.

we currently have 31" tires on pacer wheels (dont think the wheels make a difference though, would they?). i believe the wheels are 15x10?

even from stock tires (which i think are 30"?) the mileage should drop and average of 5-6 MPG. oil is changed religously (in fact i stained some good shorts doing it today), spark plugs were just changed with bosch plugs (damn that 6th cylinder is a pita to get to).

since i will be driving the car eventually, it will only be driven around town. as long as fuel economy stays about where it is, i'll be kinda satisfied.

we dont wanna go rock crawling or anything, but we do want to take it off-road once in a while just for fun. nohing major, just a trail or something kind of easy for now. we thought about the 3"susp. lift and 33" tires.

btw, does the tranny make a difference in mileage?
