Question cleaning a K&N cone filter

Hey all, I have an AEM K&N cone filter that needs to be cleaned/replaced. I hate to replace it, since I like the way it looks. I also have another K&N cone filter surrounded with a heat shield that I use for the summer and I don't think another filter will fit inside the shield, so I'd like to clean that filter as well.

How do I clean the air filters?
Do I buy a special kit or what? If so, then is it obtainable at walmart, pepboys, autozone, etc?
Is there a certain brand of cleaners that I should get?
Thanks,
Adam

yes, they sell a kit at local parts stores...
just spray the cleaner on the filter, let it sit and then hose it off.
let the filter dry and then re-oil it and re-install it.
it's all included in the kit when you buy it.

Why is because it causes too much silicone to go into your engine, creatine more wear and tear on it. Just don't oil the filter too often. Id oil every other year.

Ah, so since my filter is only half a year old, but still is very dirty, I should just use the cleaning solution on it?

You will need to use the cleaning solution and re-oil. I clean mine every 30K miles.

Using to much oil , causes the oil to migrate into the air intake tube , then contaminating the MAP sensor which in turn wil cause the computer to recalibrate and cause poor performance..

To clean the MAP sensor just use electrical contact cleaner...be gentle as some are just fine wires and are fragile..

use the perscribed cleaner..and oil...the oil has a high tack agent to help dirt collect

Some K&N air filters have the one million mile warranty. So if this is what you have, buy the K&N cleaning kit to extend the life of your filter.
