Question exhaust issues

I have 91 F150 with the 300 I6. I have been wanting to and needing to change the exhaust on it. It currently has a y pipe behind the cat with 2 tailpipes and turbo packs mufflers. IT sounds pretty nice but it's just not deep enough The exhaust on it from the manifolds is a odd setup. 1 huge manifold with 2 head pipes coming off it. Then the 2 head pipes running into the preheater, front cat, whatever you want to call it. After the preheater it has a huge 3 1/2" pipe that runs into the main catalytic converter. Now I'm no artist, but here is what I was thinking of doing.

II <<< 2head pipes from the manifold
II
oo <<< 2 catalytic converters
II
II
X <<< x pipe in place of muffler
II
vv <<< chrome tips out the back

Any thoughts on this setup?????

Sounds like it will look/ sound good, should be loud enough now. Try Midas for the work, very resonable prices and good work.

problem is I don't have a midas within 50 miles of me, however, the local exhaust shop here in town does great work and he could prolly put it on for me. Should sound badass though!! I'm still open to any thoughts and ideas

Im kinda partial to the side exit style like on the L, y6u could always dump it after the x pipe, get a great deep tone that way

ah ok so something like this then:

II - manifold head pipes
II
oo - 2 cats
II
_
_ - pipes out the passenger side before rear wheel

Ya that would be an awesome setup, problem is the frame rails seem to be in the way of that??

Isn't there a header for the Ford I-6? I'd see what's available that way before I did anything. Headers make any motor sound good.

Im sure they have a header out there for the 300, solid motor BTW, as for the rail you could have them put a slight bend in the plumbing coming from the cat that would angle the rest a bit. How much of it would you have to clear?

edit: Come to think of it you probably have about 4-5" between the upward bend of the chassis near the wheel well, it shoud poke through there.

cliffordperformance makes a header for thee 300 6. Any header that is on something makes anything sound good which is true. I'm just not real fond of the way 4bangers sound, but that's just me What bothers me about headers is a good set of cermaic headers cost like $350?? for a v8 and you get like a 20-30 h.p increase???, but on a v8 they sound real nice. I would love to see what they sound like a Dodge with the 360 in it, now that would be something worth listening to and getting headers for, but again that's just me. I'm on kind of a budget too since the holidays are approaching. I think for what I am going to do is true duals, magnaflow high flow cats, x pipe, and glasspacks. Because it seems like the 300 6 has more volume to it rather than the deep agressive sound. Without a muffler on there might sound alittle ricey at high rpm tks guys for the advice and help, I'll let you know how it turns out

To save on some cash: see if the rear cat has an o2 sensor on it. If not you can cut that out of the equation. If you have emmissions testing be sure to check first.

if you want to save money make more power and be loud just gut your cats and put 2 Dynomax bullit mufflers right after your X pipe but where you got a v6 I really can't tell you how good it will sound but stay away from Glasspacks I got them on my Chevy and the Glasspacks drone like crazy

Gutting the cats wont be good, you need some backpressure. As far as dynomax goes just spend a little more and get flow 40 series, dynomax is no louder than stock, but if you want to go with dmax get the ultra flow

Flowmasters suck they sound good but flow like sh*t and I ment Dynomax Bullet mufflers its basicly a Glasspack that won't burn out and won't drone and you can get these from http://www.jegs.com/ for about $35 bucks each
