Guess What I Installed This Weekend? Varooom!

I installed a supercharger on my 3.4L Toyota Tacoma!

Supposedly, it turns my truck "from a 190-horsepower marshmallow into a 265-horsepower hot dog..." I have to take it easy for the first 200 miles or so, then it takes just a bit longer for the computer to figure out how to get the most out of all that extra air. I've put 50 miles on it so far, and I must say that it adds a bit o' zip

I would have posted an actual picture of my application, but I'm too ashamed to show my dirty engine on Autopia

Hopefully the only thing I'll be breaking is the speed limit, and traction at the rear wheels

Well? You've surely driven more then 200 miles by now. How is it?

I'd actually buy the Ford Camry or is that the Toyota Taurus if it had the supercharger. It'd make it interesting enough not to induce a coma like a regular Camry would.

It's a lot quicker than it was, but I really don't have anything to compare it to. Sadly (or not) this is the fastest vehicle I've ever owned. Superchared 4WD Tacomas without any extra fule mods usually run 15's in the 1/4 mile -- mine is a Prerunner, which means it's a 2WD truck sitting on 4WD suspension, so it's a little lighter. I have an automatic transmission and a topper, though, so that slows me down (not to mention the 31" tires).

It's a lot more fun to drive, anyway. I've been sick all this week, so I really haven't taken it out and ran it hard yet. I wanted to re-torque all of the bolts and check the belt tensions before I ran it too hard, but just haven't felt up to it the past few days.

Here's your supercharger for the 3.0L Camry:

And here's a hoot, a supercharger for a 3.0L Sienna minivan! That would be great to smoke some punk ricer with a minivan!

There was a guy with a turbocharged Caravan running 13's a couple of years or so ago. All I remember now is that his site was called something like Gus's. It was defintely a real sleeper.

Charles

Bummer. Just did a search and Gus was killed in a motorcycle accident. Also his Caravan was in the 12's.

Damn, that SC for the Land Cruiser is tempting. That would be around 350hp in that SUV, 380 if I got the exhaust too.... *sigh* its $4,000 + $700.

Don't sweat it too much. From what I've heard, the supercharger for the IForce V8 isn't all that hot. I can't rememer the numbers, but the guys on the Tundra forum weren't getting near the HP that TRD reports for it in dyno tests. I guess the F-150 Lightening remains in a class by itself...

I've seen pictures of that 12 second Caravan on the web too It's unfortunate the guy died.

Wow! Great price on a supercharger. I guess the incapatablity of the blower with the VVTi engines precludes it's use on the Camry Lexus clone, the ES300. I wonder if it would work on a 93 Lexus ES300 (non-VVTi engine). I am hoping my Dad buys a new car so I can buy his Lexus. For being 10 years old, it is in amazing condition, has just over 90,000 miles on it and has had a steady diet of Mobil One coating it's internals. Damn slow for a V6 though. My Accord would blow it's doors off with just a 2.2 liter 4 (header, cold air intake, pulleys, exhaust). Engine just feels choked up, probably the air intake takes a torturous route to quiet the sound and the exhaust is probably very restrictive, also to reduce noise.

The site says the blower is for the 97-01 engines, but I'll have to check with them to see if it will also work on a 93.
