Hood Protectors

With winter coming I'm looking for ways to protect my car from damage from salt ,cinders and all the other crap they use on the roads around here.
Do those plastic hood protectors do anything other than keeping the leading edge of the hood from getting damaged? Are they worth the trouble?

Re: Hood Protectors

I had a Lund on my old truck. Although it added some style, and did definitely protect the hood from rock chips, etc...the only problem was that it deflected the rock chips to the leading edge of the roof of the truck, causing nicks and chips on top; but it did keep the hood pristine. Needless to say, I don't have one on my new truck and have no desire to put one on.
