Royal Purple

The only thing I have found Royal about Royal Purple oil is the price. As a suggestion skip the hype at 50bux for 5qts and a filter it doesnt outperform mobil 1 or Amsoil. On my Spec V I dropped oil pressure at idle and full throttle. I also lost fuel economy by about 2mpg city and highway according to the On board Computer built into the vehicle. AS far as performance gains I noticed no gains in power nor with reduction in friction compared to petro based oil. Im not biased towards any synthetic brand but for the 2x the cost of mobil 1 or valvoline dont waste the money. Amsoil would be choice but being 19k miles and still 6years warranty left im not pissing away that money. Naturally access to the sight is forbidden however there are dyno results showing it to be a poor performer. Hope this helps others out.

Re: Royal Purple

Royal Purple does not outperform Amsoil. I have heard problems with Royal Purple and moly separation. I'm not sure why you think using Amsoil is pissing away your money.

Re: Royal Purple

IIRC I saw Royal Purple at Wal-Mart and it was about 6 bucks a quart, which is about the same as Mobil 1. Of course, Mobil 1 isn't what it used to be although I haven't been on BITOG lately...

Mobil 1 went from group IV basestock to group III basestocks. Shame really.

Yeah, usual big-business MBA-CEO horsepucky. They care more about making a bigger profit then a better product...but hardly alone.

Re: Royal Purple

No, Syntec is the same, not better. The popular story is that Mobil took Castrol to court for calling their "severely hydro-cracked" dino oil synthetic, compared to Mobil's PAO-based "real" synthetic, and the FTC ruled that Castrol could call theirs synthetic (which they were charging substantially as much as Mobil 1). So instead of taking the high road and continuing to make a superior product, Mobil decided they would never be able to convince the public that theirs was really better, so they just changed theirs over to the cheaper chemistry that Castrol uses to make boatloads more money. Mobil denies that, the truth will be forever obscured in the molecules and the bonuses of the CEO's....

Suspected but unproven. It can't be stated as fact.......yet.

Re: Royal Purple

I've been reading a lot of bad stuff about RP lately. I'll either be going with Amsoil or Redline for all oils in my car.

You can't go wrong with either of these. I do prefer amsoil because they were the first to make synthetic oil back in the 70's. Redline did make a noticeable difference in my trans. It shifts much smoother even at lower temps.

For my cars i put redline in diffs, t-cases, and transmissions. Amsoil goes into the engine with a mobil1 filter every 5000-7500 miles.

Re: Royal Purple

I for one, still enjoy Royal Purple. I could feel the difference over the conventional oil I had been using.

I cant speak to any negative issues however.
