Replacing the stock Y-pipe with an after-market hi-performance one will not increase exhaust flow unless the system after this component is also enhanced. To get any benefit you must also replace the exhaust after the converter ( cat-back system ). If the car has over 50,000 miles you can also replace the cat with a hi-flow unit. If you have to choose between the y-pipe and cat-back the cat-back would be the only way to go. Maximum gain for increase exhaust flow can only be realized if you also include headers.
Hope this helps.
