My custom turbo 1997 E320, lots of pics.

Howdy, I'm Max Hughes and I'm finally starting to car about how my car looks. I notice this is a big detailing forum so I joined up. I built this in the summer of 08 after I graduated from high school. It is my first turbo experience and I built the whole thing from scratch. Everything from the turbo to the engine management installed is a first for any Mercedes.

With a completely stock engine I made 352rwhp and 366rwtq. Stock engine has 10.1:1 compression and displaces 3.2l(195ci) as an I6.

The only modification to the engine currently is a 1.9mm cylinder head spacer to lower the compression into the low 9's, high 8's. I have not had the chance to mess with it yet.

Nice setup you have there. Its cool to see something like this. What are you using for engine management?

is it to tight to fit an Extractor pipe (header) in there ? that will give you more flow and better performance. and put the wastegate on the same pipe just before the turbo.

BUT it looks realy nice good work

Any reason there's no filter on the turbo? Want to practice on how to rebuild one?

Looks good. But ghetto none the less. Log manifolds like the one you made have horrible turbulence flow that fight each other making it terribly inefficient. You made some nice power though. I've ran a 60-1 before and for me I got 25psi by 4100rpm. Lag is definitely not that bad at all on this turbo.

Curious. What are you using for an engine management?

Looks great man! Glad to see you did the building and everything yourself. I've been around turbo cars for quite a while and even though your only going 8psi right now that's a big honkin turbo, even on a I6. Supra's don't even get full spool (28psi or so) with that size turbo until about 4k rpms. When do you get full boost though (rpm)? Also once you get tuned you should see an increase in spool.
