Great, clearcoat is screwed on hood

Noticed awhile back that it looked like my paint had tiny cracks in it, took it to a bodyshop to get an estimate on getting it repainted and he knocked on it once and says "that's bondo, a ton of it". His recommendation is to get a new hood and get it painted, quote was around $800. So now I'm going to have a great looking shiny truck and have a hood that looks like sh*t. Parents don't really wanna pay to repaint it cuz i'm not sure how much longer i'll have it. Thanks for listening to the rant, i'll put up some pics of it when i take some of the detail.

Edit: Is there any wax/sealant that won't fill in all the cracks with white and make it look even worse?
