Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

Some of those may not be even painted.

I bet some are covered with just black film. Can be removed and protects the paint under at the same time.

Really?

I am pretty sure they are painted. This seems to be the newest "hot paint job". I just cant help thinking that in a few years when there is something else new will it hurt the value of your 996? I love the look, very nasty and mean...but will you be happy with your $10K paint job in 5 years or 10 years. Just throwing it out there.

I'm not kidding, products have gotten better. It is faster too AND best part of it is you can remove it when it gets boring. Any shop which cuts stickers can do this. (if they think its not too boring)

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

IMG 1747 looks like a bad paint job to me. Looks like they didnt paint the jambs and the interesection of the A-pillar you can see a small bubble (which I guess could be on a sticker too). Hmm, that is an interesting theory.

I'm still not sure I would do that to my Porsche.

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

Well believe it or not, it can be done. Over here there was lots of city buses taped all over with different colout and printed logos. Including windows and all, they had some feedback about the windows that they made it difficult to see outside. (window area had taping with small holes, like a mesh)

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

Oh, I know it can be done. Most race cars now are just big stickers and not paint. I just cant figure out why youd put a sticker on a Ferrari?

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

They probably did it for publicity?

Seems like it worked.

Good point! I didnt mean to question you...I just couldnt understand the reasoning on a car such as a Ferrari.

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

Okay. Another reason I can think of could be resale value, repaint it and it will never be the same..

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

Im a fan of satin black paint jobs, what i dont understand is the stigma behind them. Let me explain, people aka so called detailers say when you have a satin black paint job that it wont last/you wont be able to clean it. *** BBQ I dont understand that...dont you just get satin black paint and use flat clear coat? Then it would be like any other "glossy" color paint job in terms of maintenance/durability/etc. Basically they make it seem as if going with a satin black paint job is hard to execute...someone in the know please enlighten me.

Re: Satin and/or Matte Black Paint Finishes

If you want a flat paint job, you need the paint AND the clear to be flat. spraying a flat clear over a glossy color would still make the color look glossy, and only add an extra layer of protection. Just think of how the gloss black would look without the clear and thats about the same outcome you will have when you spray a flat clear over.

Check out all the badass flats that House of Kolor offers. Metallics, pearls, all kinds of colors. I like the twilight black metallic myself.
