Wait, I'm confused...you don't like Obama because he hangs around with terrorists, or because you would prefer a President that graduated at the bottom of his class instead of the top?

That sounds like current Republican logic....if Carter was a bad president...and he graduated at the top of his class...what we need is a president that graduated at the bottom of his class! Sounds more like Animal House logic, to me....7 years of Naval Academy, down the drain!

Vanity Fair: vanityfair.com

I am sure I will get labeled a screaming liberal for my comments but let me say I have been a Republican as long as John McCain has been in Congress. This is the first time in my life that I have even considered voting Democrat.
From the Vanity Fair article:

Cindy McCain
Oscar de la Renta dress: $3,000
Chanel J12 White Ceramic Watch: $4,500
Three-carat diamond earrings: $280,000
Four-strand pearl necklace: $11,000–$25,000
Shoes, designer unknown: $600
Total: Between $299,100 and $313,100
Wow! No wonder McCain has so many houses: his wife has the price of a Scottsdale split-level hanging from her ears.
(All prices except Laura’s shoes and Cindy’s watch are estimates, and the jewelry prices are based on the assumption that the pieces are real.)

My wife has 3 carat diamond earrings...price: $8000
She has a Mikimoto pearl necklace.......price: $2000

Think designers make gift dresses for events like this just for the publicity? How many actresses wear $1 mi. jewelry to the Oscars and then return them to the jeweler who loaned them the next day?

Cindy McCain is worth millions, operating a family business that has brought pleasure and alcohol to millions of customers. Should she wear crap to the biggest event of her husband's life, or should she wear her best?

Save the class warfare for tax increases.

Mike (wants his first family to be successful and to seek the job because of a desire to serve the country, not for the money and power)

Good grades in college = great leader? Hardly. It could be a portent of potential or could be a sign the guy had no social life, was a nerd, and studied all the time.

Mike (made horrible grades his first time in college...great grades after the military)

In his most serious lapse, McCain was "clowning" around in a Skyraider over southern Spain about December 1961 and flew into electrical wires, causing a blackout, according to McCain's own account as well as those of naval officers and enlistees aboard the carrier Intrepid. In another incident, in 1965, McCain crashed a T-2 trainer jet in Virginia."

But I guess that must be "liberal media" slant. They did note that his piloting skills improved later in his career, allowing him to be posted to the Forrestal in 'Nam.
I believe the article you are quoting from pointed out that McCain was commended by the Navy for his flying skills, even before he was shot down. The "23 year-old" incident was cited in my post, as was "the most serious lapse" where he landed with some power lines dangling from his aircraft.

Ever daydreamed and run your car off the edge of the road and had to correct back or crossed the centerline and had to steer back? Those same lapses can get you killed in an aircraft. It's easy to sit at a keyboard and attack someone's military career.

Who's attacking? You are characterizing McCain's history differently than I have seen it characterized. I certainly don't have the stones for a carrier landing. In for six years...what was your MOS?

Air Force didn't use MOS codes...I was an instrument flight trainer specialist, teaching instrument flying in simulators to student pilots. The aircraft was the T-37, a twin engine Cessna jet.

Re: Sarah Palin

I used to work with a lot of guys who were in in that era...Navy, AF, and Marines. No T-37 guys though, we had C-5, B-52, OV-10, A-6, A-4. We were in the shop, the sim guys were down the hall.

No, she doesn't fly. They own a plane, but only her husband flies. I saw him interviewed and I think he said he has only had her up once in his plane (and that she wouldn't go with him after that).

Re: Sarah Palin

How about putting some good ol' Republican thinking into running the country?

If you wanna run the country like a business, as is so apt for the republicans to do, do you hire the guy who could barely graduate from school? Or do you you hire the guy who graduated MAGNA CUM LAUDE from Harvard. I'd pick the well educated guy as he stands a much better chance of getting it right. It's no guarantee but it's the best you can do. But strangely enough everything in politics is topsy turvy because republicans want to run the government like a business, but hire their not so intelligent bar buds and cronies as their corporate officers. Then they wonder why they failed badly.

A response I've actually gotten from this is that the democrats are too busy bickering to get anything done quickly. Well if you study how the founding fathers designed the government you'd know the bickering was built in. I still think the irrational gut decisions of this still President Bush were among the worst disasters ever, especially if you look at it in the business sense as republicans seem so apt to do.
