Re: Republican or Democrat?
Voting based purely on an allegiance to a party has never been my style. I listen to each sides positions and then decide.... I never agree 100% with either side so I have to basically apply a numerical weight to each topic based on what is important to my life, views and ideals and then I vote accordingly.

Re: Republican or Democrat?
I will vote for parties which emphasize the importance of health care for everyone, not just the rich. I will also vote for parties which help the middle class/lower class in endeavours such as starting/maintaining business, go to school, and other major life events. I don't think society should be left on its own because the upper class will ALWAYS get their way and I think there should be some equilibrium.

Re: Republican or Democrat?
I will say that I don't believe in public healthcare (I have not seen the governement run one thing correctly, ever). I do believe in giving everybody an equal shot at achieving health care, but I do agree it has to change. Right now we have public healthcare, ask any illegal immigrant.

Re: Republican or Democrat?
The USA is the only wealthy country in the whole world without universal health care, last I checked.

Re: Republican or Democrat?
I am independent but generally vote for politicians who are for small government, school choice, Pro-Life, favor programs which help people BUILD THEMSELVES UP, not make them dependent on government hand outs, strong on National Security, and nominate judges who interpret laws, not make laws. I probably vote a little more Republican than Democrat but that is mostly because Kentucky Democrats (outside of Louisville atleast) tend to be more moderate than Democrats on the national level (such as both Clintons, Obama, Kerry, Gore, Reid, Kennedy, etc.)

Interesting thing I've noticed (and I could be wrong) is that the US tends to have more swing voters or voters who vote on issues than in Canada.

Not that I doubt the statement much but please for the love of god don't quote wikipideia as anything factual..... ever... Anyone and their brother can change anything ever posted on it. It was created as a joke. The creator has said it many times over. I have no idea why people think it was ever anything but and why people always seem to quote it as something to base actual facts on.... It's simply not... never was and never will be. The whole site is a joke that anyone can take part in.

I don't think the government's job is provide thier version of equalibrium. I mean we have seen how well that has worked with dozens of failed programs.
In this country, with the access to grants, scholarships, and education, I believe everybody has a shot to work hard and reap the benefits. Want to be "upper class", go to school, and devote everything in your life to being "upper class". Work two, three jobs, save every penny, invest it, keep learning and advancing, you can get there.
What I don't think it fair is when the government steps in and plays Robin Hood. I know a lot of people that have a lot of money, and I know that almost every one of the them have made HUGE sacrafices. Then the government says, "Thanks for sacraficing your life for the money we are now going to give to the people who haven't made those sacrafices"
For example, if I wanted so desprately to be upper-class, I could be. I would have to sacrafice sleep, time, time with my wife, time with my son, etc.. Work a couple jobs, life frugely, and invest my money wisely. In 20 years I will be "rich". But then for 20 years I won't have much of a life.
What isn't fair is when the government decides that somebody else, who has spent twenty years having fun and enjoying life defaults on a morgage that they signed, and they government decides to use my sacraficed time's money to support them.
Or when the lady who have never worked a day in her life and has six kids gets a cut of my hard earned money. That isn't fair. She wouldn't have made the sacrafices...
Just my two cents...

I pay a lot a month for healthcare and I pay more in co-pays when I use it (so that isn't fair when somebody with no healthcare gets a free ride on my hard working butt). But when the taxes in our country double (which will cost the working class more per year) to support health care, then I might as well quit. I am ignorant to Candian policy, but what isn't income tax extremely high up north?
