Re: Obama or McCain?

To find the root of the current problem google this and read up on it. "Community Reinvestment Act" This has been going on for over 30 years. Look who passed it and who tried to reform it. It has finally come home to roost and the GOP just happens to be in office, so they get the blame of course. I was only 21 and liberal when this was passed but it didn't make sense then and it has proven to be a bad thing. The sad part is that the people who are losing the most on this are minorities and the poor.

Never even considered that. Silly me.
Personally, I'm not thrilled with the Democrat's choice either, but 4 more years of this? No thanks.
That all being said, I come here for detailing, not politics. At least this thread, albeit navigating in dangerous waters, has remained civilized. That's a good thing.
A fair question for you, in what way did you suffer under EVERY GOP admin? I remember a thriving economy under Reagan. His tax cuts for all doubled tax revenues and set the wheels in motion for the next 20 years. A broad statement from you and not any substance.

It could have been reintroduced the next year as well. There is definitely a lot of this that is not known.
Actually the house did pass the bill. It is in the senate where the democrats stopped it in its tracks.

You might have forgotten the fact that it takes 60 votes to pass a bill in the Senate. In the 2005 senate there were only 55 Republicans. While a majority, this was not enough to move this bill if some democrats wouldn't vote for it. There were not enough votes to pass this bill so it was DOA by the democrats with their pockets flush with F&F contributions.

In 2006 the mix was even more opposed to passage of such a bill as the number of Republicans in the senate dropped to 49.

While I despise these high CEO salaries, they are a drop in the bucket when compared to the scale of bad loans. The CEO salaries stink but this was not the problem that caused our financial market to crash. This fiasco lies at the feet of our congress and their greed, corruption and malfeasance.

Of the two candidates running for president, only one recognized this problem and tried to fix it before it became a disaster.

This may open your eyes to the level of corruption that has and is taking place on our dime.

Re: Obama or McCain?

Here is another good recap.

Who's Fault is the Mortgage Crisis?

The mainstream media is parroting the line that "there's plenty of blame to go around" for the recent mortgage and financial crisis. If you're at all familiar with the slant of the mainstream media, you'll immediately see this as an indicator that the Democrats may be primarily to blame. So, I set out to find the answer to the question who's to blame and this is what I found...

Setec, they are only biased if they lean in the opposite direction the particular person happens to lean

That is the great thing about the internet, you can find an link to support whatever your argument happens to be. I am willing to bet with some Googling you could find a link to support the argument the world is flat

Of course the world is flat! Anyone can see that! And as they say, bias is in the eye of the beholder....or something like that.

You can argue that we have not had a domestic attack but we have lost 4000+ serviceman in Iraq (more than lost in 9/11) and 30,000 more wounded. I think that warrants some note.
I am not soley blaming Democrats but they had a part in this crisis, much of this can be tied to Clinton and his easing of lending restrictions and Democrats push for predominantly more low income minorities to be able to buy houses even with bad credit and low income. John McCain also pushed a Bill that would regulate Fannie May and Freddie Mac as well as add regulation and investigation into other major lenders as he saw this could be an issue in 2005, it was shot down in Congress. Barrack Obama received one of the highest contributions from FM and FM as well as other Democrats. I wonder why the bill was shot down. It amazes me when people actually think Obama is somehow better suited to deal with the economy and the crisis when he has offered absolutely nothing nor seems all that concerned and he has no real record or experience dealing with economic issues or passing economic policy that has worked. He has no record on the economy yet many who are mezmerized by his speeches believe he has all the answers even though he has zero record or credibility on the economy. I don't blame the Bush Administration for my woes and problems or Americas problems because I know it is not their fault and I am not one of these people that just blames Bush for all my mistakes or why gas prices are high or why I got a flat tire. I do believe the Bush Administration has done a poor job with illegal immigration and should have worked harder to make sure there is a secure border fence and kicking out illegals even though it is going to cause him hispanic votes if he gets tough on illegal immigration.

We have not had another attack because the number one priority after 9/11 was to secure America and make sure we were not attacked again, this meant doing some things that many Dems were against and fought but it has kept us safe. Instead of being on the defence we are also on the offence in Afghanistan and Iraq. 4000 soldiers have died but they died fighting and killing thousands of Al Qaeda instead of just being innocent unarmed victims like in 9/11. Al Qaeda has to attack Americans in Iraq and Afghan because they can't really hit America anymore and they are usually killed after attacking the US military. It does not matter whether we are in Afghanistan or Iraq, we are still fighting and killing thousands of terrorists and destroying their networks and top leadership, it is better then fighting them in the US. If Iraq and Afghanistan are ridded of most terrorist, become Democracies, and have thriving economies they will be a lesson to the middle east and their citizens will want what Iraq and Afghan have which will lead to less terrorists and terrorism. Having 2 major allies in the war on terror is a major step to reforming the middle east. The President is not going to have the luxury of just debating whether we should have gone into Iraq or not, he is going to have to lead with the current situation in Iraq and what needs to be done now, not what he thinks should have been done, Obama wants to give up, give a date no matter what and cut tail and run in a short amount of time no matter what the consequences which will be Iraq taken over by terrorists and Iran and the US most likely having to go back fight another war, McCain wants to and helped put forth the surge to win and make sure Iraq does not fall into the wrong hands and we never have to go back and fight again. I will take McCains leadership on Iraq/Afghanistan and the economy any day over the inexperienced and untested Obama and is just only able to make good "speeches" about subjects but has zero record of accomplishing anything in those empty "speeches" and promises.

Re: Obama or McCain?

Kind of the beaten path but I have heard RUMOURS that Obama doesn't have a birth certificate in the US, and that it is very likely that he was born in Kenya. Maybe a stupid question, but is there any truth to this?

Quick Google search produced an image of his Hawaii birth certificate on the La Times....

Barack Obama's birth certificate revealed here | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times

He has said publicly that he was born in Hawaii, this is something easy enough to verify so I seriously doubt he is lying about it...

Actually, "Al-Qaeda in Iraq" did not exist prior to our invasion, and although that group has certainly killed US soldiers in Iraq, most of our troops have been killed by various insurgent groups from the varied factions which existed in Iraq prior to our invasion and had nothing to do with 9/11.

These include Sunni Baathists loyal to the former regime, the majority Shia faction, and splinters of both groups. The third major faction, the Kurds, have largely stayed out of the conflict due to their success at splitting off their region of the country from Iraqi rule prior to our invasion.
