Every person has rights. To deny that, denies the very foundation of America.
I am one conservative that is delighted that Barrack is willing to move past the unethical and terrorist inspiring practices that have taken place under the Bush administration.

Re: Obama or McCain?
I'm glad our country has decided to evolve instead of devolve.
And yeah, I'm one of those crazy people who actually wants an intelligent person in office. I guess I'm just picky that way.

Is that a joke? Seriously, I'm really curious... (given Obama's ties with known terrorists it sure smells of a joke)

Its absolutely not a joke.
I did not vote for Obama, but I stand behind reform in how we are treating prisoners. (Just as McCain lobbied to do so) I believe every human life has rights. When we take the position that someone "forfeits" their rights because they are an alleged terrorist we do our country a great disservice and our service men and women and even greater disservice.
If we are confidant that an individual has done something wrong, we should have the confidence to provide due process. No one should be able to act as the enforcer, jury, judge and executor. Doing so is not only unconstitutional and illegal, but completely flies in the face of what America is about.
Its easy (and lazy) to argue that someone who is an alleged terrorist should have no rights, but that effectively lowers America to the same level as the terrorists themselves. We can be better then those who act out in hatred all while getting the job done.

Wrong, we were screwed for the last 2 years. The first 6 years were fine. And all in all, we are still very safe and have had no more terrorist attacks.
What bothers me is, the economists have already said the economy will be back by next year. People will think that is attributed to Obama and that Obama is that much better than Bush, when in fact, Obama will likely not have done anything by then to influence our economy..
Is anyone else tired of the "black" racism since Obama has been elected? Seems that blacks are "coming out of the closet" racists.

That's fine in a fantasy world but do we need to bring soldiers off the battlefield to testify in American courts against people we took into custody on that battlefield? Does each soldier that captures a prisoner have to forfeit his position with his unit to become a witness against that prisoner? It's not like a cop that captures a perp; the perp is fingerprinted and processed, photos are taken, DNA etc. and that evidence does not rely purely on the cop's testimony. The cop is needed only at the final trial, probably in his home town. How do you get evidence from the battlefield?
Is giving prisoners civil rights the way it's been done in the past? I think not....
In the past, prisoners taken into custody on the battlefield had rights only under the Geneva Convention (which would be "NONE" for the terrorists that pretend to be civilians and then attack our soldiers. If you want rights as a prisoner, wear a uniform and "fight fair".)
The fact that we send these people away from the battlefield (for protective measures) to a facility that allows them to practice their religion and appear before military tribunals if they have a legitimate defense is head and shoulders above the rights that prisoners of war have gotten in the past. And these guys are NOT entitled to the Geneva Convention protections...
America has become too politically correct, but thank God for Bush standing up and protecting us. Although our media and others, who were our allies allegedly, belittle America today, we're still the best nation on earth.
Mike

Re: Obama or McCain?
If you weren't doing well economically in 2005-06, you could probably blame yourself.
If you were doing well then and you're not doing well now, you can probably blame FM and FM and the corruption on Wall Street.
