Re: Obama or McCain?
"I have a great belief that the fundamentals of our economy are very strong."
That statement alone by McCain scares the heck out of me. He also voted with Bush 98% of the time so I do NOT see how that will equate to any kind of change what so ever. Is Obama the second coming? Of course not but I do truly believe that of the 2 candidates, Obama really does want change. McCain will just be an extension of Bush and that would NOT be good imo.

Re: Obama or McCain?
Well I ended up with 11of 13 siding with Obama. I do not agree with his stance as far as immigration and our borders.
One thing that I have noted in my political philosophy is the fact that I have changed from a liberal democratic hippie to red neck republican thru the early years but of late that I have been haunted by the word "enlightened." To be enlightened means that one cannot vote for McCain. I do believe that there is a chance for enlightenment if I vote for Obama.
This is what I mean about enlightenment.
"The philosophy of the Enlightenment insisted on man's essential autonomy: man is responsible to himself, to his own rational interests, to his self-development, and, by an inescapable extension, to the welfare of his fellow man. For the philosophes, man was not a sinner, at least not by nature; human nature -- and this argument was subversive, in fact revolutionary, in their day -- is by origin good, or at least neutral. Despite the undeniable power of man's antisocial passions, therefore, the individual may hope for improvement through his own efforts -- through education, participation in politics, activity in behalf of reform, but not through prayer." [Peter Gay]
This philosophy embraced a name for the spirit and system of Continental philosophers in the 18th century. I know it is in my nature to help others as I would like to be helped. I don't feel like I will be helped by McCain. I do feel that Obama will help because he is more "enlightened."

Re: Obama or McCain?
I was going to vote for McCain until he said he fully supports "Free Trade" which is a big scam in my opinion that hurts American workers & families. They're planning more with CAFTA and Codex (WTO, FDA, Big Pharma) working hard to take your vitamins, herbs and natural remedies away under international law that we'll be "obligated" to obey. Who obligates us? The sold-out fools in Washington followed by the lap-dog media.

Re: Obama or McCain?
I think I am closer to McCain than Obama on positions but what scares me is something happens to McCain, Palin is president. There will be a power vacuum on control and the same old losers that are running the white house and causeing a lot of this mess could be back in charge. As we see today, the president is only as good as the support he/she uses for day to day decisions. Bush clearly was not making any and letting others run things. Palin may be a real sleeper and have what it takes but it is a big gamble. Palin talking with Putin, how does that sound? If the GOP will not her talk to the press, what does that tell you?

12-1 Obama in the survey. Quite surprised by that, although Ron Paul is my guy.

I think what that means is you are more libertarian. Liberarians fiscal conservatives but liberal on social issues.

11 to 2 for Obama, but the statements aren't exactly apple to apple debate style.

If by suffering you are referring to constant economic growth, or a lack of terrorist attacks on US soil, or historic lows of unemployment...then yeah, good point.
