Re: Obama or McCain?
I love the fact that despite the overwhelming support for McCain in our poll, that the National polls are leaning to Obama.......... Hmm........ Something to think about. I was called by Rueters and when I told them I approved of Bush and the war in Iraq they hung up on me! Kerry, Gore and McGovern were all ahead by 5-8 points on election day and lost. May the best man win and I will vote for the war veteran over the community organizer.

Funny and so prototypically "republican" it is too easy to respond to. By in large, the USA gives lower per capita payouts in welfare to most of it western allies, you know what the result is? Lower crime, higher literacy, stronger public education etc...
However, that only tells half the story. It's not just about welfare payment being succesful, it's about a whole host of issues and since I am not party driven, I can hit them all. It's about funding education, but also about rewarding good teachers (notice, both ideas take from both parties).
It's about helping others out, so they can help themselves out. It's about society helping out one another while still encouraging personal responsibility. It's about using the strongest economy the world has ever seen to make everyone as succesful as they can be as a group. So the cures are neither on the left or right, the answer is taking from both, where appropriate.

Does the economy "take off" when you "build it from the bottom"?

Yes, that is why consumer spending indexes are so important in our economy.

Is that what history has shown us?

Yes, but you actually have to read it, not Newt Gingrich's "talking points".

Or maybe the blind, the old, the wounded and the addicted. We should just cast them all into a pit and "breed" success into our society.

Unfortunately, welfare resulted in dads not living with mom and the kids, which has contributed to the crime debacle we have today.

LOL!!!
Yes, I can see in places like Sweden your statement is absolutely false. Let me ask you a serious question, Mr. 1948, how often have you travelled outside of the US and where? If you have (which I highly doubt), haven't you ever learned that sometimes others do things better than us?

I'm glad your family did what my mother's family did....they all lived together, pooled their money, and took care of the family until they completed high school and got married to start their own families.

Yes and here I am today, not harping on "how great I am" and how "lazy the others must be".

The fact that you "studied under the top professors" means nothing to me.

It wasn't meant to impress you, just to show you that you really don't have a firm grasp of some issues.

The fact that Bill Ayers is ranked #1 tells you everything you need to know about college professors (the vast majority of which vote Democrat and wish for socialism).

Yes, because democratic socialism is SOOOOOOO scary. LOL

Or, said another way.... you're voting for the guy near the bottom of his class, who said the "economy was fundamentally sound" 8 days before the bottom fell out, the guy who got shot down in Vietnam more times than an ugly guy in a Hollywood bar and not for the Negro, who just happened to get into Harvard Law and was the Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
Incidentally, why does getting shot down and raped by the enemy for five years qualify you as President? I mean, Jimmy Chesnut can eat more hot dogs than anyone on the planet in 12 minutes, is he ready to be Prez?
This makes not mention of his bimbo running mate (although admitedly I'm willing to concede that Biden is also a Bimbo).

now now.. don't pick on Mc Cain, he was only in the bottom 99.4%, he did, to his credit, beat out 0.6% of his fellow students.
Perhaps he's um.... "street" smart, not "book" smart...

I have had enough of your lawyer double speak B.S. When you show me that you have given up your old maple leaf flag and swear allegiance to the U.S.A., then, sir, you will have the right to tell me and my fellow AMERICANS how to vote. If you are not happy with the American way of life and OUR policies, then take your American wife and your American children back to Canada. My family has spilled blood in EVERY war we have had. You may be the best lawyer in New York but you DO NOT have a right to tell ME how to vote. Go ahead and make fun of a MAN that served his country, did you serve yours? Or are you confused as to where you belong. This post may get me banned for attacking you but I will not shed any tears over it! GOD BLESS AMERICA and damn anyone living here and enjoying the fruits of MY ancestors that make hating it a "sport." Shame on you and your shallow views.

Re: Obama or McCain?
And that's the result of the Republican party being hijacked by the fringe right. "If you're not voting Republican, you hate America/the military/you're a traitor, etc." Sigh. The Republican party used to be a honorable party.
If there's a forum that allows debate here, so be it. Why does it have to denigrate to the above posting?

as a Canadian I am blessed with the freedom of speech. I also have the right to follow any political party I choose. Its one of many of the great things about being Canadian.
I was under the impression that the same rights were given to our neighbors to the south. I guess I was wrong.
It saddens me that because one chooses to follow a different political party, question his current government, and have different ideologies that one is demeaned and degraded in such a way.
Also I don’t see how he cannot be proud to be both Canadian and American, last time I checked they were not mutually exclusive. I don’t know why he cannot be a proud Canadian and a proud American.
Also what is wrong with questioning the government, you know what happens when you don’t? You get Iraq.
Your government was founded on questioning government, heck if you had not questioned (and fought) the British you would not be the nation you are today.
You say God bless America, yes god bless American indeed, with comments and ignorance like that you are going to need it.
Now to be cliché

So did the Democratic party! Check out some of the things that J.F.K. advocated. They were not the radical leftists views we see coming out of that side. McCain would be seen as a left wing liberal if the same values were held today.

I dont think thats a fair comparision. there is an old saying. Yesterdays liberals are todays conservatives.
So to say that what we are doing today is more liberal even if you are a consertative is an unjust, unfair statement

Either you are an American or something else. I am sorry to say, would you NON-Americans please keep you views to yourself! Once again I expect to lose my posting rights! Sorry, David, but I have just stated how I feel! My family has spilled to much blood to let me allow what I am seeing here from NON-Americans.

I have never seen so much racism in my life so close to me. I am ashamed. But i just wanted you to know that not all of us are idiots. Obama is already uniting people because this election has brought this issue right to my front door step. Right in my face, up close and very personal!
This election has forever changed the way I think about racism in these United States.
Ha ha "united" states.. please.

It is sad that you have experienced. Most of my oldest and dearest friends are black and until recentely we have always laughed at our differences. However I am shocked by the absolute racist view they share as well, willing to vote for somebody because they are the same skin color as they are.
Pot-Kettle-Black(or white or whatever).
My point is that it goes both ways and it is sad. However it takes (IMO) a certain amount of ignorance to think that it only goes one way and that 'racism' is limited to what white people do. I think that 93% (or whatever the CBS poll) of black people who are voting are voting for Obama shows far more racism then the 54% of white people (or whatever the CBS poll) that are voting for McCain.
