Surf City Hot Rod Detailer - Review

Mfg’s Description: Ever notice how decades of fun in the sun makes people’s faces turn to leather? Well, paint doesn’t fare much better. One look at the cars in Death Valley and you can see how the sun can destroy a valuable paint job. At Surf City Garage, we’ve put a stop to that. Introducing Hot Rod, a 100% wax-free, premium detailer that uses our proprietary Micron Adhesion Technology process to block UV rays. So whether you’re having fun in the sun or driving through the unforgiving desert day after day, Hot Rod is the no-wax way to keep your car’s paint job looking like a million dollars year after year

Mfg’s Directions for Use:
Directions: (1) Shake before use. (2) Spray a light mist on surface of car. (3) Dry with a clean towel. (4) Lightly buff.

Mfg’s Detailing Tip:
To keep your interior in great shape, use Dash Away to remove dust, dirt and grime. Then it’s time for Voodoo Blend Leather Rejuvenator, the only way to bring your leather back from the dead.

Mfg’s Guarantee:
When used as directed, if this product isn't the best you've ever tried, give me a call and I'll buy it back.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to test this product I ONLY I used the Surf City Hot Rod Detailer after an Optimum No Rinse wash. I usually use a spray wax or sealant of some sort after a maintence wash but really wanted to test this product.

Application was easy, no streaking occured...A micro fiber was used for application.

I used the following method for application:
Micro fiber was primed with one spray of the product
3 sprays were used on the initial panel (hood)
product was spread with micro fiber
Micro fiber was flipped to dry side
product was lightky "buffed" with dry side of MF

Each subsequent panel took less product as the micro fiber became filled with product.

Summary

Pacakging: The packaging is really top notch..as with the other products I have used from Surf City, they all retain the "car guy" feel. No nonsense straight to the point approach.

Directions: Clear and concise

Application: The product went on and off with ease

Results:

To be honest I wasn't expecting to much from this product. The main reason being is that I rely on other products for shine and protection. My main usage of QD's these days are to aid in my "blot drying" or for the bird bombs.

With that said I was pleasantly surprised when I used this product. It really must be LOADED with polymers because the shine it provided was exceptional for a QD.

When comparring it to other items in my aresenal it gives more of a shine than FK425 which is quite an accomplishment.. and almost achieves the bling of Duragloss Aqua Wax - which is great considering this is a QD (Surf City) vs a Spray Sealant (Duragloss).

Here's some after pics: (pretty wet for just a QD!!!)

Stellar QD......Plus I think the sprayer is perfect for it. Ya know how sometimes you get spray products that have overatomizing spray tips? Big pet peeve of mine. I hate the Megs QD sprayer for this reason.

Re: Surf City Hot Rod Detailer - Review

Being that I live in the sunshine state, products that incorporate UV blockers make perfect sense. I will have to give this one a try.

Re: Surf City Hot Rod Detailer - Review

Hi Motorcity!!

GREAT REVIEW! I love this product and in looks is atleast on terms with FK 425 if not better. The only difference is that this does tend to major more on the anti UV protection rather then the Anti Static qualities you get with 425!

Geoff

Re: Surf City Hot Rod Detailer - Review

I have only tried a couple Surf City products and thought they where great. However the packaging and names are terrible...lol. It looks like stuff from walmart, but honestly, its the stuff inside that counts.

Thanks for the great review!
