Well, finally stopped by the CarQuest and picked up some 105, along with some other goodies. Here are my initial thoughts on the 105....(wish I had pics, but I have no internet access at home currently and have no other way to get any pics up)
Product: Duragloss #105 Total Performance Polish, new product from the company. Is all synthetic polymer.
Price: About $8 at Carquest...for 16 oz of product. So, for me, every bottle should yield about 32 coats.
Manufacturer Claims: Supposed to be their most durable product to date, claims it can or will last 1 year on the back of the bottle. Never have seem that statement on their other car polishes (111 or 101). Claims to be resistant to acids, bird droppings, and other envirnmental contaminants. Supposed to have some slight cleaning ability...more on that later.
Car applied to and paint condition: 2003 garnet fire Infiniti G35 sedan with excellent paint condition. Little to no contamination, minor/minute swirling, so no polishing done in this detail. Only thing done to the paint lately was about a 1.5 month old application of AW, which was still going strong for me. So, just gave it a wash and went straight to the 105...
Cleaning ability (in my opinion): Virtually none. Pad didn't show any paint transfer, nor was it overly dirty from any "cleaning" action. Also wouldn't even begin to remove slight waterspotting in one area. I would say it was like applying Zaino Z2 or Z5 to the paint, as far as cleaning ability goes.
Spreadability and consistency of the product: 105 is a thin purple, grape smelling liquid that spreads very easily onto the paint. Makes thin applications pretty easy, but years of Zaino use have taught me how to do thin anyway. Used probably .5 ounce to do the full car (G35 sedan). This product will work better in thin coats. When applying to the paint, the product film gives off a very familiar sheen in the sun. I've seen this sheen before.
Dry time: I let it sit outside (no garage) for about 1 hour, while I cleaned the wife's car. Was completely hazed and ready to buff, but honestly, I think it was dry and buffable at about 10-15 minutes. I applied to the whole car at once before I buffed off. The manufacturer suggests doing one panel at a time, letting it haze, then buff off. I had no trouble applying to the whole car, and then buffing.
Removal: Pretty easy, buffed away clean with two swipes of a MF towel. No dusting, no white residue in any crevices.
Slickness: Very good! Slickness is great, and seemed to improve as the day went on. Towels just slipped across the surface... I'd compare to the slickness to be as good as UPP or Zaino.
Shine, wetness, depth: VERY reflective, and very wet!! Shine is really incredible, as is reflectivity and wetness. Sharp crisp reflections, is the name of the game here. Sorry, but the product I think it looks closest to is Zaino Z5P. Looks very very similar to me. Depth is pretty good, but a carnauba or overly oily product will obviously have more depth. The 105 gave my red G35 a stand out appearance, with very bright reflections, and a wet looking coating. The little bit of metallic that is in my paint really stood out and was enhanced, really looks good!
Durability: No idea yet, obviously. I am very interested in the 1 year durability claim, so I will be closely monitoring the performance of 105. I applied 1 coat of the product, and did not top with Aquawax or even any QDs. I want to see how durable this product is by itself with no help, under pretty harsh conditions. My car sits outside 24/7 and is exposed to all manner of harmful elements...
Day 2 impression: Still great....still very slick, almost no dust has settled to the paint, which I thought is pretty cool since my car is outside 24/7. Car is staying very clean.
Overall impression: Fantastic!! For the price, the 105 hands down the best OTC product I've used, and I've been through them all. I will still regard 105 and the AW (among DG's other products) as easily at boutique quality level. I've used other lines of boutique products that didn't impress me nearly as much as this product has so far. I will be blown away if the shine, slickness, protection, and durability are there for the long term. I challenge people to try 105 and compare to Z5 and draw their own conclusions. While I admit #111 and Z2 were a bit different, the 105 is strikingly close to Z5, IMO. These are *my* observations, and YMMV.
from me so far. Along with the new AW, it seems we have another winner from DG!
