Mothers Power Ball users......need help.

I got the Mothers Power Ball last weekend and have been trying to use it on a set of Fikse FM10 wheels, primarily on the back side that does not get cleaned near as often as they should. These are NOT clear coated rims, so I'm trying to polish bare aluminum. I tried using a 14v cordless drill and it did very little using Mothers Mag Wheel polish. It was actually quicker just to use a wad of NeverDull by hand. It worked a lot better with a higher speed on a corded drill, BUT, the problem that I have when running at the higher speed, is that the foam starts to shread and come off in little bits if you hit any sharp edges. The Fikse wheels are a mesh type that have lots of sharp machined edges to deal with.

Any suggestions??????

I dont have any suggestions but I love your wheels....

I have the same mesh style (HRE 540's) that are fully polished. They are so difficult to keep clean and polished and they are on a show car. I can't even imagine them on a daily driver.

Pat...Thanks. If I did not have the Fikse's, yours would be my next choice! If I end up getting the toy that I'm thinking of, I will probably put a set of HRE's on it.

Forrest from Mothers e-mailed me and said that the Power Ball works a lot better with an 18v cordless. The 14v that I have does not generate enough RPM to be effective and the corded drill spins too fast, which causes the tearing.

Since a new 18v cordless is not in my future any time soon

I will try to replicate the speed of one with my variable speed DeWalt and see what happens.

Actually I can tell you it really depends on what kind of cordless 14V drill you have. The better ones like Dewalt, Mikita actually spins at 1100-1400 RPMs which is the same as most 18V drills. The cheaper drills like Black and Decker or Ryobi 14V spin slower like 800 RPMS. I was temped to buy one of thoes Ryobi 18V when it was on sale at the Depot, but when I looked at the specs I notice my old Dewalt was just as fast. The funny thing is that my brother bought one and when compared to my Dewalt the Ryobi actually has less torque. The only advantage I see in that 18V is the running time is longer than my old drill.
