Quick Question: Meguiars heavy Cut or Ultra cut?

I'm tackling a red 98 Vette tomorrow with pretty heavy swirls and original paint. My local supply store only has Meg's Heavy Cut compound, not the ultra cut. They can order in the "Diamond Cut", but I've never used that one. Is there a big difference between these or any tips or tricks I should know? I'll be using my Makita rotary with an orange 7 1/2" pad for the first pass of hard cutting, I suspect.

Thanks for the info!

You want #105 Ultra-cut. Call around, someone else may have it. Use a wool pad instead of an orange pad as well. All those curves on the Corvette and a stiff orange pad will mean some really nasty hazing.

Thanks so much Scott! Your advice means a lot and I read your posts like the Bible. I haven't been too active at posting, but I read Autopia tons. You just saved me hours, I'm sure! Thanks again!

Re: Quick Question: Meguiars heavy Cut or Ultra cut?

I'd suggest 95 since it works like a traditional compound.

I second 95, 105 is great but is much trickier to get the hang of, at least it was for me.

I still haven't been able to source out the 105, but do have a bottle of the 95 from a friend, so I'll have to give that a shot. At least it's not too hot out today...
