Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I usually shave first, then clean, then put on after-shave balm. I don't know if that's the correct approach, if there is one, but it seems to work well for me.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

First. I use some sort of pre shave face cleanser actually.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I have a -fogless mirror in my shower. So I wash myself well first and do the face last, that way the warm water and steam and open my pores and soften the hair. The I shave, then wash my face with a dedicated fasce wash.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I use a pre-shave facial wash first, dry and then shave. Then use a moisturiser afterwards....because I'm a Today's man

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

It's best to wash your face in hot/warm water before shaving. It helps soften your beard and prepare your skin. After you've washed your face you can begin to shave. If you shave after your shower make sure to re-wet your face with warm water to soften your skin. Water also help the razor glide across your face creating a barrier for your skin. You're supposed to shave your hair, not your skin.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

Well considering i'm bald by choice, I shave in the shower. It is usually the last thing I do (face and head) allowing the hot water to soften up the skin and open the pores. Then I'll finish with an after shave balm.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I should clarify that I never shave prior to showering. It's always afterward. So the steam from the shower does the job of opening the pores, softening the stubble, etc.

The rest of the shave prep is more than taken care of with a good badger brush and shave cream. I like to specifically wash my face afterward to get rid of residual shave cream, remnants of shaved hair, and so on.

Then, it's on to the back! (j/k )

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I wash first, then shave. Every two to three days I use a scrub, then wash, then shave. The way I figure it, washing after shaving is like waxing your car before you wash it. To me, it doesn't make sense. The only time I wash after shaving is if I'm using Men-u cleanser as a toner (though I would still wash before shaving too).

Here's a good little blurb from Men Essentials on the matter.
