Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

Do any of you guys use a straight razor? I love mine except on my chin. I haven't been able to master that area yet - still working on it. However, on my cheeks and neck it is far better than a Gillette. It is a relief not having to pay for those over priced blades anymore. Just pull out my trusty Dovo (good German high carbon steel), strope it on a leather strope, lather up with some shaving soap and a badger brush and shave away.

Re: Facial Cleaning and Shaving

I haven't used a straight razor before, but I've become much more proficient with using my single blade Merkur HD. It's great to use anything that's not only much cheaper than the traditional Gillette or Schick cartridges, but flat out works better--just have to be more careful. With a single edge, badger brush and quality soap like Taylor's, Geo. Trumper's and the like, it's hard to go back to any other kind of shaving. Maybe someday I'll move to a straight razor if I'm ever brave enough. One thing's for sure, my Panasonic electric is in a drawer collecting dust.

Like I said, so long as you strop it correctly and use plenty of hot water and shaving soap on your face, you should be OK. I just haven't mastered shaving my chin yet.
