That's how my sister quit! She had a kid and decided it was time to stop (though it took her a few trys)!!

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

I quit memorial day weekend...

I did it because my son (7 years old) kept asking me to quit, what can you say when your kid looks at you in the eyes and says "Dad, please quit smoking. I don't want you to die"...

Cold turkey.... feels great!

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

I know of 2 people who has successfully quit smoking and both did it cold turkey.

My father was a heavy smoker up until I was born. He said that he noticed that I didn't like the smoke, and that made him quit right away. It's been more than 27 years now since he last lit up. As an adult, I still do not like cigarette smoke. I deal with it (like when I go to the casinos or out with a smoker friend), but I'm not one to preach to people telling them they need to do this or that.

My father-in-law was a heavy smoker at one time. He said back then he only bought shirts that had 2 pockets, so it could hold his 2 packs of cigarettes. I'm not sure what the motivating factor was that made him quit, but he did it cold turkey. I don't know what age he quit, but he's turning 80 this year and it must have been at least 40-50 years at the very least since he last lit up.

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

Dang Patrick, you didn't quit yet? I used to work with a guy who did the hypnosis and said it worked but then he got bored and started smoking again. I have a business associate who told me last time I saw him that the patch etc. never worked for him, and he was on some prescription pill that was working great. Ever looked into that (sorry, I don't remember the name of it)?

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

Man, a smoking thread. Something that I picked up and can never get rid off. I did quit once, and I did this with a patch. I also got rid of my friends who smoked! That pretty much left me looking like an A__h_le to my friends who thought that I ditched them!

Anyways, I made a mistake 3 years later and tried a drag of smoke from this cute little blonde! Big mistake. the drag led to another drag then to a cigarrette then to another. Eventually, Im back smoking and hiding in the garage afraid that everyone will see me smoking again.

I have two cigs left in my pack! With it I have a new box of Nicorrette patches! Tomorrow, Im planning to use it - and this time, hopefully I stay out of it forever. I have two cigs left. Ill smoke one now and the last later. Sort, of like a last meal thing. I will dream about all the fun times and think about my ever lasting relationship with Marlboro.

This time, I promise to quit. Unfortunately, if another Blonde comes along - this time I might run away! sob sob.

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

After 15yrs of smoking, somehow I caught a cold and didn't feel like smoking. Haven't smoked since. So I guess my method was COLD TURKEY!

I know Mike! Its been a tough run. I just have to tell myself, "no mas!"
Like Tod, I find it more inviting to quit while you dont have the opportunity or the desire to smoke....Not that thats an excuse, but its definetly a little easier on the psych when you have a couple day lead time due to a cold....

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

I think its called "Chantix".....Its about $150.00 for a month supply. It triggers chemicals in the brain that disassociate the urge for additional nicotine.....

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

Chantix

Your health ins. won't cover that? Besides, that sounds like about the same money you'd spend on cigs.

Re: Smoking, how did you quit ?

Zyban gen term welbitrin I think. Doc put me on this and cuts cravings by triggering something in the little ol brain. Take for 2 weeks and done. I could even go out to the bars and not want a smoke. WORKS MIRACLES. But You NEED TO WANT to quit.
