Now that the weather is getting better I can finaly get outside and jog again and boy is it ever easier without that extra weight.

White_07_G6_GT- Wow, that's great...46 pounds is really something Yeah, I just *bet* that the jogging is a lot better now, especially on your knees/etc.

Lost about 40 from diet alone (only took 4 months) then i lost another 20 with hiking and judo (probably lost the equivalent of 40 lbs of body fat though since i bulked considerably). My body fat as measured by BIA is 16%, down from 23% in last may. I shudder to guess what it was in feb 07.

mindflux- Well, this thread is a sticky I for one would prefer that people just post exercise/diet stuff to *this* one instead of starting another, but

One of my main motivations for loosing the weight, other than all the college @$$ I'm getting now, was hiking. I wanted to do more serious expeditions and couldn't with all the weight. I've always done martial arts, but picked up judo after i realized i was fit enough to do it. 2 hour classes every other day kick your butt.
Unfortunately, i haven't been doing anything all month since i developed a MRSA infection 3 weeks ago and am waiting for the hole in my leg to heal. Don't forget to wipe down the gym equipment, people.

Cut out the late night snacks and now that the weather is better, I've been riding pretty regularly. Got in a 35.2 mile ride tonight despite the brutal winds...and I typically maintain an 18-21 mph pace, a few times the wind pretty much instantly knocked my speed down by about 3 mph!

I have been trying to increase my intake but it isn't helping. The gym scale says I dropped another pound today. I think it may be due to stress caused by classes combined with a schedule that doesn't allow much time for proper meals. I do usually eat 3 meals a day though. On average I may miss lunch 3 times a week but that can't be that big of a deal, can it? I don't even notice I've missed them. I do always eat breakfast. Finals will be over this week so I will be able to get back to the gym 5 days a week like last semester so if I can increase my intake it won't be going to fat. I don't drink protein shakes on a regular basis but maybe it would help me? I am looking to gain muscle but not get too bulky. Any advice? BTW, I am on a VERY limited budget so expensive health foods aren't really an option.

I've been real busy detailing and working a fulltime job too. Just got back off a 7 day cruise to the Southern Carribbean Islands on the Carnival Ship. The weather and sights were Great. The best thing was that my room was on the Spa Deck. So every morning I went to the gym. This really inspired me to get back to training again. I have competed in amateur bodybuilding shows. Now at almost 51 I'm ready to Hit The Iron again, with new inspiration. You'll LOVE Yourself for it! Keep Working Out! Everybody!

Stanger'66- You're one *tall* guy at 6' 11" to be weighing 150! I'm only 5' 10", but I've always been ectomorphic and I understand how tough it is to put on muscle (and keep it on).
Assuming there's no underlying medical condition, then yeah, stress and poor dietary practices could certainly be the explanation.
Three meals is, IMO, bare minimum. I eat three meals *and* have several meal replacement powder (MRP) shakes...and at age 48 I probably have a much slower metabolism than you do. I know that if I miss a few meals the muscle just melts right off of me. Regarding your schedule (and I was a teacher at the local U, so I do understand about how tough this can be), I'd prioritize the eating Honestly, air, water, food, and rest simply oughta be more important than all the "real stuff" people seem to find time for.
Speaking of rest, it's also important to get plenty of sleep. I know that's not a very popular viewpoint these days, but my quality of life (and my fitness level) went *way* up when I started getting more sleep. For years I considered sleeping a complete waste of time..man was I wrong about that!
Rough take on diet: if you want to weigh 170, then you'll need that many grams of good protein every day, and you can use that protein requirement for some rough estimates regarding your overall diet: If your diet oughta be roughly 35-40/50/10-15% protein/carbs/fat then you can calculate your bare minimum requirements with a little math (remember that fat has 9 calories per gram, protein and carbs only have 4). Figure out your minimum needs, then divide that up so that you get no more than 30 grams of protein at each meal (that's plenty to metabolize at one time). Eat the right blend of foods to get that 40/50/10 at every meal. Try to eat low glycemic index carbs so you'll avoid wild fluctuations in blood sugar.
