That will come from your diet I am afraid.
How is your diet?

How is your diet? | Pretty clean. No junk food, no soda, no fried food (very little alcohol....I only drink a beer or two on UFC nights once a month with my buddies). I haven't done a calorie count in a while, just played around with nutridiary.com for about a month and came up with a diet that works for me. I eat lean as possible, and concentrate my carbs before exercise. My cardio is performed at 5:30am right out of bed three times a week, and then in the afternoon for 2-3 (depending on how I fee after work) days. My Am cardio sessions are performed on the treadmill, and then I kinda run sprints in the backyard with my dogs in the afternoon if the weather is nice. I've yet to catch either dog...they're too fast. I train my abs at 5:30am the days that I am not doing cardio. I just started to add weights to my hanging leg raises, and I'm doing weighted crunches on a decline bench, along with reverse crunches, and jackknife situps on the floor. Abs get trained three days a week (mon/wed/fri or tues/thurs/sat depending). I also do a few sets of crunches on the floor, followed by some trunk twists for the obliques. It's about 30-45 minutes of ab work with very little rest between sets. I was doing weighted side bends, but they were kinda making me look wide, and hurt the "V taper" look. Now I'm trying to work to get my V Taper looking impressive as well as some definition in my abs.

Well I was doing really well with lifting at least 4 days a week and running almost daily, until last thursday when i broke my hand. Now I can't work out at all . I have no idea how long I'll have this cast on, but over the past week and a half I've lost 6 pounds of muscle that took me FOREVER to put on . Im not very happy about this whole deal. And washing my truck yesterday took an extra 30 minutes because I can't get my right hand wet.

At age 48, I don't really think of myself as a bodybuilder, but I do exercise (freeweights and/or cardio) almost every day, and have for over 20 years. I watch my diet but I'm not obsessive about it (I've stayed well under 10% bodyfat since forever and I maintain pretty good definition/vascularity on my abs). People can generally tell I'm serious about this stuff even when I'm wearing a suit and the guys who test my bodyfat sometimes tease me about never "getting *really* serious and competing".
However your efforts turn out, I hope you're able to once again enjoy making exercise a regular part of your life. I don't really *enjoy* detailing all that much..to me it's a chore that needs to be done (done *correctly* ) but I genuinely look forward to every workout, even the cardio, year-in-year out.
hockeyplaya13- If I were in your (unfortunate ) situation I'd be hitting the hip-belt squats or a leg press machine. Concentrate on your legs while your hand heals up and you shouldn't loose much.

Me, I eat a lot of lean meats. Chicken breast and lean beef. I eat a lot of tuna (well, I'm kinda taking a break from it, because I was eating a can a day just plain with nothing mixed with it). I eat a couple servings of light yogurt that's got very little sugar. I also eat some peanut butter sandwiches made with Natural peanut butter and whole grain bread. If I go out to eat with my friends, I'll usually have a grilled chicken salad with dressing on the side (that sucks when they've got beer and wings...oh well). I almost forgot, I've been a fan of applesauce lately too. I've been buying this kind with Pomegranate mixed in with it. It's pretty good and one cup is a full serving of fruit.
Accumulator,
Maybe you should compete if people are telling you that. It'd be cool for someone at your age to walk in and take a trophy from a group of guys a lot younger than you. Then you could brag about it to Accumulatorette from then on out!

I have been on this forum since 01, and have seen very few threads related to this topic. I believe that most Autopian are OCD, and bodybuilding is another healthy form of this illness. My first true love is detailing, but bodybuilding is again another addiction I am happy to be suffering from once again.
Dieting is defenitely the hardest part of bodybuilding for me.

It *is* gratifying to have people think such stuff though, especially considering I was *really* skinny and out of shape when I was younger. Kinda cool that every year I get better for my age, but in part that's probably because most other people get a little worse every year.

I competed in the Tennessee State Chapionships in 2002 and got third in my division. Bodybuilding is all about the details. it's not about how much you can push, but about symmetry and proportions. Bodybuilding has made me into a person that wants everything to be the best at living up to it's potential. I wish you well on your endevour and I think I may do another show this year or next, we'll see. Do you have any pics from the last one? Here's me one week before the show:
